This is our hunting team at my house. Gunner(white) is a 5 year old English Pointer with like 5% Hound in him and Riley(brown) is a 2 year old pure bred German Short Haired Pointer. They are machines in the woods working birds! These dogs are awesome family dogs and super friendly but tough as nails in the woods going through the thickest/nasitest brush.

Few questions for you dog guys. Im wanting to own my first dog and i am looking at a german sheperd or a lab.

How do these do as house dogs? Are they way too big of a breed to be primarily inside? I can't do the whole toy dog thing... Its gotta be something big or nothing :).

Huskys are pretty awesome too, but how would they do in oklahoma/texas heat?

Thanks!

Do A Lot of research. For instance Alaskan Malamute's are not good for 1st time dog owners. I also have 2 Shepard mix's. Our Malamute stays inside all the time unless were out with her and i live in Va. We have been having record breaking temps and as long as you think of the general rule of thumb they will be fine. You can't have them out for long periods of time same with Shepards also. General thought process if your Hot there HOT. They have a full coat and can't sweat like we can. All 4 of my dogs are in AC'd in the House/Garage or Heated House/Garage year round unless they can stay out and have there fan outdoors and a plentiful supply of water and food.

Any sized dog can be an inside dog, all dogs require some level of mental and physical stimulation and those requirements increase to a whole new level when you have a working breed dog. So it really depends on what sort of lifestyle you live.

syn...female bullmastiff...90lbs
argus.male bullmastiff.....128lbs

adam...if you are going for your first dog i would stay with a lab\golden type dog....they are smart and relatively easy to train. they are happy running and sitting by your feet. they are great with family and friends. they are a very forgiving breed when it comes to owner faults in training.....as stated..all dogs will req some stimulation but this breed is happy where ever you are sitting

This is my "real" dog, Maya. She is Puggle (pug, beagle mix. Thank god she has more of the beagle)

This is right after we walked out of the store with her. We should have returned her right after she did this. It still hasn't gotten any better ;)

And here is today. Yup, she still likes chewing on things.

Last, her riding in the cobra. I just told her we were going to the vet to get her last shots.
