new time

Hello. We went to Maple Grove Friday night and it went a best of 9.87 @ 145 with the same setup. The air was a little cooler than the week before. Tranny is done though. It flashes so bad on the shift that it hits the rev limiter no matter how early I shift it. Since I didn't buy it new, Performance Automatic wants $895 to go through it and then they'll only warranty it for a year. I may just go over it myself. The tranny is so bad, I really can't believe it went into the 9's.

I have to hand it to THP. They put together a nice kit that was easy to install. It pushed my 4000+ lb convertible from 10.60's with the Whipple to 9.80's and went from 134 to 145 both on pump gas. Not too shabby. That's also with a tranny that is toast whereas with the Whipple it was okay.

Although I'm not sure of which PA trans you're running, you might want to think about just buying one of their stronger units. It'll come with a warranty.

It is their top of the line tranny with transbrake, deep pan, Alto Red clutches and band, etc. Can't get anything better from them. The issue I have with them is that I did not buy the trans from them directly. Therefore, they claim I am not the original owner, therefore it is not warrantied. The best of it is this...if I take it to them to have them go through it and rebuild it to perfect working order, it is $895 with only a 1 year warranty. I thought about doing it and pulling it every year forever and telling them it was slipping, rebuild it. I asked them how much it would be for a rebuild kit for it. Depends on the year of the trans they said. 2001-up $545, 99-2000 $736. For a rebuild kit. I priced them with the same Alto Red clutches, Kolene steels, etc for $299 elsewhere. Now I know I'm just going to redo it myself. Never again. Why warranty something that you are going to try any and all means possible to get out of it? For now, I'm going to limp it through True Street at Atco on the 18" wheels and then at some point I'll pull it and go through it. It'll probably work better that way too!

Actually, the great part of it all was when I went to Carlisle for the swap meet and PA was there. I had already found out the bad news by calling them. I went over to the booth where a guy was filling out all of the paperwork for a competition C4 and he had his credit card out. I asked the rep from PA about the trans and when he told me the same b.s. , I asked him how that was and how it would only have a 1 year warranty after they redid it. I asked him why I could buy a rebuild kit for $300 and they were charging me $595 to redo their own tranny? I told him not to worry about it that I would take it to Dynamic and have them go through it. I walked away...so did the guy that was about to purchase a fully built C4. I guess they lost more in that one instance than if they would have redone the tranny. The worst of it is that I said I wasn't even worried about the warranty and that I could understand if they wanted me to pay for the parts or something. $895? That's crazy...for a trans with all clutches and only one band for OD? A trans that should only need friction material replaced. No. I'll do it.
