Motorcraft – FL-2087 This one is a bit of interesting story. This is the Ford recommended filter for later model GT350 and GT500 Mustangs. Word has it that this more robust filter, with a metal inner support structure instead of plastic, was designed to resist being crushed under high suction situations. If that’s the case, it probably only happened during some wild full-throttle below freezing cold start endurance test performed by Ford engineers. In any event, this filter is basically as good as it gets for the engines it will fit (which includes the Nano EcoBoost V6 engines). It features the plastic end-caps of the FL-2062, but combines them with a metal wire mesh backed synthetic filter media. This is a very high-end design we often see on ultra-premium filters. If you don’t mind spending 3-4X the money vs a FL-2062, this is the filter to buy. Though you will have to find one extra o-ring to complete the install.
