New to the Forum, trying to decide on either 3.73's or 4.10's for my '99 Cobra

What power level is the engine at? Stock or forced induction? DD street car that sees Hwy driving or fun car that doesn't see much Hwy driving?

From everything I have seen many say a 4.30 gear for the n/a Cobra's. They like to rev and since the hp is not real high for today's standard, the gears really help to wake things up. I recently drove a 99 cobra with 4.30's and it didn't seem bad at all. But then again I didn't do any highway driving in it. I have 4.10's in my 03(roughly 700whp)and love em. It really changed the attitude of the car.

I have a set of 3.73's that I'm putting in my 98 Cobra. I've driven a 98 Cobra with 4.10's and it was definitely fun, but driving on the highway wasn't as enjoyable. Anything over 70 MPH and the exhaust was too loud. I like to cruise on the highway and go on trips, so 4.10's won't work for me, even in my stock NA B heads.

Just as an FYI, 99/01 Cobras would be in the "New Edge" section. Don't get me wrong, you are welcome here too, but you'd get more specific answers for your car in the New Edge area.

4.30s. Not even a question.
Even on the highway, it's a great gear. I pull 2800 RPM at 80 mph on the highway. 21+mpg

To pull that speed at that rpm you either aren't running the stock T-45 with .67 5th or you're running much taller tires.

I've had 4.30s on my '98 for years. They are fun on the street around town and at the track, but I don't enjoy cruising at 3K+ in the highway. I'd take them out of the car if I drove it regularly. True, these cars do come alive with some gear, but personally I'd be content with the performance/highway compromise 3.73s provide. If you really don't care, then my all means go for the 4.10s or 4.30s...just don't think you'll pull the said rpm above with a set of 4.30s and otherwise stock car.

I've had 4.30s for almost 10 years with a stick t45.
I run a 295/35/18 rear tire.

I've always seen 2800 at 80

4.10s are what you want if staying N/A. If you plan on adding a supercharger later you'll probably want 3.73s

These cars are no faster on the street with 4.30's over 4.10's. I don't get the "these cars like to rev" comments. Power falls off pretty hard after 6300 with the stock intake. I've had all 3 gears, and 3.73 were my favorite for a street car.

Now for drag only slicks/skinnys, and a clutch/trans combo you can powershift 4.30's or 4.56's.

I thought this is the New Edge Forum (area)?
