Finally got a Firestick and had my cousin jailbreak it. Best $40 I've ever spent and no more $220/month on DTV! The only thing I'll miss is the local news in the AM but can just check their website. I wish I had done this years ago.

I need to do this too. So tired of paying these high bills for TV that has basically nothing on. Streaming TV is the way to go. If you are only losing the local channels can you get every other channel that you had on DTV.

    Hell yeah!

I've had the Dragonbox (same difference) for 2 months now and I'm NEVER going back to cable, Att Uverse, or Direct TV. **** them.

I can search through and find any movie (including in theaters) or any television show, documentary, mini series, etc....for free. All I'm paying now is my internet bill which I need anyway.

Thanks. I need to look into getting this also. DTV has come out with their own stream TV service called Direct TV Now because they know its the now and future of watching.

How was it cancelling your DTV? I've heard it's a nightmare. I have the Amazon Fire TV sitting on a shelf waiting for install.

Not bad, I just called and told them to end the service. They offered a HEAVILY discounted price (about 50% off) to stay but I'm done. They're sending packaging to send my receivers and remotes back.

Its only a nightmare if you have a contract with DTV for like 2 years or a year. Then its a pain in the ass to get out. I am out of any contract with DTV and need to make a change.

Are you running Kodi? What add ons are installed? I had an android box that was such a nightmare to find stuff on. Definitely takes more time to search for movies. Plus a lot of the links get taken down. I went back to Comcast just because it was easier

Everything is on demand essentially. Once the show has aired you can watch it whenever. This was my Wife's concern initially but she still gets to watch all her stupid reality shit whenever she wants....I wasn't able to cut the cord without the boss' approval LOL.

Yes I'm using Kodi and it has a TON of add ons but I'm using Specto fork mainly, the search function is the easiest. I just watch Logan and Kong Skull Island this AM. :)

Does anyone make a stand alone DVR with menu service? Kind of like the old services that were run out of business by the cable companies.

If you want local news put an antenna up and get it ota.

I cut the cord 10 or 12 years ago and don't miss it one bit. When I met my wife she was hesitant about ditching the cable bill but 4 years later and she doesn't miss it either. We can watch more shows than before because there aren't recording restrictions and we can download shows from stations we couldn't afford to subscribe to as well as shows that are region specific. She took the saved money and leased a horse that she rides twice a week.

Traditional cable TV is dying. That's what they get for ripping everyone off for so many decades.

I'd love to do that but I don't want to lose the channel that airs my local sports.

I'd love to read more specific and detailed instructions on how this works. Moving away from DirecTV intrigues me, but I've only heard general comments that it's easy to do and the results are great. You all make it sound easy to do every day, and maybe it is, but more details might convince more of us that it's the way to go.

Can all of the movies and shows be streamed in HD?
    Any 4K content available?
    Are there any pitfalls?
How much time does it take to search for and start streaming content?
There is no channel guide, correct? So do you have to search for most content?
Are there any movies or content, other than local stations, that might not be available?
Is all ESPN content (ie. NCAA basketball semis and finals) available?
Any links that are good reading to answer the above questions, and more?
