It is indeed surprising that the GT350R was able to cut a lap time so close to the more powerful ZL1. The ZL1 1LE should indeed run away though and open up the margin quite a bit. I've said it before, regarding the SS 1LE and the GT350 (and a non-R at that), the SS wasn't able to perform on the same level. Having tracked both, I have little doubt that the GT350 would distance itself by quite a bit as the laps go by. If you were at a track where RPM was limited to 5k or so the times would be as close as the chart up above.

Hey zyborg, did you read the article? The track was green. This is why noobs and morons shouldn't go off of a top gear style list when comparing lap times with cars.

The zl1 and gt350r were same day same driver.

The 1le was much better track conditions (sticky with rubber)

Don't you find it funny that according to that list, a 460hp camaro was only a quarter second slower than a 650hp camaro?

Lmao you're obviously trying to get under people's skin just like Hillary supporters saying she won the (illegals/voter fraud ripe) popular vote.

Bottom line, the gt350r is quicker in twisties than the zl1. It's 200lbs lighter at the nose, no real surprise.

Same day and driver at leguna, my money's on the gt350r to be honest. Not that I care, the zl1 isn't a bad car by any stretch, but handling goes to the gt350r.

A car that's faster than both of these two around big willow is a Bugatti veyron. Thing handles like a cruise ship but hey, since the attempted sale is that lap time is handling, sure. It's better than both of these. So is a front drive 1980's gutted VW rabbit with 500hp and a cage with 600# coil overs and nt01's because lap times.

The level of bullshit being passed as fact is laughable.

Here's fact. Figure 8 it was .1 faster while down 221tq.

tt, why so mad tho?

You realize that you guys keep quoting the extra power/torque as if it was a bad thing? Lmao.

You realize no race EVER was ran on a figure 8?

You realize that the ZL1 was on a much inferior tire?

You realize that no matter how many excuses you guys use, the ZL1 offers better performance at track / road course?

Its OK, we will live through this.

That's going to be track dependent.

Big power tracks will give the ZL1 a bigger lead, and more technical tracks will return the favor to the GT350R.

Let's hope, it seems everything ZL1 related has been a huge let down. Couldn't manage a Hellcats 1/4, can't run away from a 350 on the Track.

Reality is, the GT350 was developed to meet the "Race Ready" Z28 head to head in professional Motorsport. Not only did Ford absolutely destroy the Camaro's Race Ready nameplate, it damn near toppled Camaro's efforts 3 years down the road.

At 0.39 seconds, the results could have just as easily landed the 350 a win there too. Once summer temperatures move in, the ZL1 could act up like the Z06. Regardless, no disputing the better engineering now.

The Mustang does more with less power and torque. The Camaro is simply out of tricks.

You realize you sound like a bitch in heat, and still keep pushing this nonsense.

Now you say price is the matter and that technical courses do not depict handling because no one races figure 8's?

For every track day that enthusiasts the nation over partake in, 50+ auto cross events are partaken in. If you think a zl1 will out perform a gt350r at an auto cross, same driver, manuals, etc, then your a ****ing moron.

I've never said the zl1 is a bad value. I've rarely said the hellcat is overpriced, I actually can't remember a time doing so. Those cars are all decent handling, but straightline honed. The zl1 goes further in the way of handling, but it's not a gt350r.

Many people akin the gt350r to a 911 rs. No one says the zl1 is like any Porsche. Take that for what it is. People that drive all of these cars every year trump some fanboy shit on svtperformance.

What? No clue what your posting about.

Everything posted prior has been pretty close to the truth with as many specifics as possible.

No need to get angry for speculating, especially if speculation becomes absolutely true.

Someone forgot to take their pills for dementia...

Long story short, the ZL1 isn't the ultimate track Camaro. The ZL1 1LE was built because Chevy knew the GT350 was too close for comfort.

All the time they had and all the extra power rendered the ZL1 nearly dead even with the GT350.

Chevy cannot replicate the GT350's dominance in a Camaro.

Nobody is arguing that the ZL1 isn't fast in a straight line. That is where it shines over the GT350R. In the corners... Not so much. The GT350R was built to be a corner carver, and it excels at it. Clearly punching above its weight.
...and it came to market 2 years after the GT350.

If it takes a supercharger, 2 years of R&D AND you still need an additional model to ensure victory, it was a HUGE let down.

Look at the pile of insecurities on C6.com. At .039, that race could have went to the GT350.

What if the GT350 gets PDI? Oh no, Camaro...

I agree with you, no doubt the 350R is an amazing car. Definitely punches above its weight. All this only makes the new ZL1 all the more impressive. The new ZL1 is a 350R and Hellcat offspring. Best of both worlds. Not only does it match Hellcat's 1/4 but then it can hit up a road course and beat the mighty 350R at its own game on an inferior tire.

Unfortunately, the supercharger isn't ideal. The GT350 was nearly the pinnacle of American road racing cars, the Z06/Z07 among it.

The Mustang has evolved in a way in which the Camaro cannot provide an answer. The Camaro simply cannot match the GT350 and beat it at its own game.

What we see now is an NA GT350 nipping the heels of a much higher output car. The ZL1 1LE is pushing the 6th Gen to its limits, already... from here on out the improvements will be few and far between.

In the other corner we have the GT350. Basically unchanged since 2015 with potential upgrades coming. What does the Camaro do now? They keep selling you "the ultimate track" Camaro but haven't made a serious attempt at it until just recently. They needed a DOHC and a Motorsport Program.

As it looks now, the Camaro will be Out-Of-Production come model year 2020. Chevy no longer has the $$$ to compete with the Mustang.

Please provide any sort of proof that what you are saying above is true. Not your claimed insider info B.S, which we all know you don't have. Don't pull a CNN on us.

Healthy debate is a good thing. Don't muddy it up with wild personal speculation.
