Heated it forever, used a bearing puller and t blew off the top. So I tried to cut it off - **** it

Dropped it off at a machine shop, picking it up today.

ya man I think I saw you had one of those three claw pullers in your stack of tools. You really need a carrier/pinion bearing kit (clamshell) Its like 3-400 bucks depending on which you get so if you plan on doing at least a couple diff jobs in your life its not worth it.

Were you able to get the pinion bearing off?

****ing RAGE!!!!!

Uh, had a machine shop pull the bearings and press on the carrier bearings.

I've now been screwing with shimming for 7-8 hours. I'm sore and frustrated.

Finally got the back lash perfect - .011

But the wear pattern is a bit off. High on the drive side, low on the coast.

I pull it apart for time 9,560, and change pinion shim from .020 to .030.

Now it keeps "jamming" up and I'm getting markings on the carrier

It turns smooth for 1/3 turn then it gets stupid hard for like two teeth.

No sign of tooth damage. I can't see any crud in there. Ugh

I'm getting lunch now. I'll get back and pull it apart, scrub it all out and see what's going on.

Rear was installed in the snow. Ford Harold Ziegler did a great job on the R&P.

Drove down to Houston. TX2K was awesome.

Home now. Ran home at lunch to swap cars out. Cobra cranks but won't start.

I'm just going to assume it's the FRPR and ordered a new one.

Wow! I just read through all the pages and you've been through a lot. Car looks great and Ive had people tell me why I keep working on cars that break and for me its all about he learning experience and the enjoyment/accomplishment of fixing and getting it running again. Good Luck with the rest.

P.S. If you decide to sell the Mach 1000 system, let me know. I have a 2003 Cobra shell that the previous owner took the factory system off and installed a crappy single din system.

So sorry to hear that you're still wading through issues with your Cobra. You've surely been through the wringer. Hopefully there some light on the horizon for you. I surely hope you'll be able to enjoy the car this summer.

Sorry to read about all your issues. As I read your story and see the pics you are posting, this car was simply a hack job. Wrong parts and poor installation = issues.

Even stuff like this, where the original owner leaves the OEM fuel line to dangle there when he installed a return system with a different feed line.

Glad you are fixing things as they come up.

You just have the wrong size bolts.

--Joe

Considering a larger bolt won't fit through the bushing... I think it has to do with them either being loose or the fact that the OEM style bushings were utterly destroyed. I'll get photos latter.

Could have just taken the anti moan brackets off, they are useless.

--Joe

I've seen several FAQs on how to add them.

I'll prolly lop off the quad shock mounts however. An ounce is an ounce.
