I may not represent all GT500 owners but I did own two and they hold a special place in my heart. The first GT500 was ordered Aug of 06 when they were one of the hottest cars on the market with HUGE adms. My dealer agreed to sell me my GT500 for $3000 over MSRP which was a deal at that time and I jumped on it. The car got delivered on 12/08/2006 and I personally drove to the rail yard and got special permission to pick it up. My first "supercar" experience in the $50 k range. Back in 06 never thought I would own car for that much money.

Later things change and I sold it and left Ford for a few years. I came back working for a Ford dealer in 2013 and bought a second 07 Gt500 ... a clone of the first and at times miss it.

But the GT350 is a much better over all car.

    Says who?

The R handily beats the z28 on lesser tires. Put the 350 on the Trofeo and it would take out the z28 as well.

The z28 is still a couple seconds faster than the new 1le.

So you base your views on different amateur drivers on different track surfaces every year. Good to know. I'm guessing you'll say the 2le is faster than the GT3RS too.

Ahh yes, validation. I stated tracking both a regular GT350 and an SS 1LE that there was no way the SS 1LE was on par with the R as it couldn't even keep up with the non-R...

There really isnt anything wrong with the GT350. Its just Ford built this car to try and pull away people from other brands and appears to be in no rush building a car that fits their core fan base. Not everybody has a race track 30 mins from their house or have curvy canyon roads. So the GT350 is useless for most.

We got the Hellcat Charger, Hellcat Challenger, ZL1, Z06 all pushing 650+ from the factory, Then we got the track focused 650+hp ZL1 1LE and the upcoming ZR1.. Ford is bringing nothing to the table that can hang with any of these cars and when they do, Its going to be ADM hell for a year afterwards.

The original GT350 was Shelby's answer to the Ford brief to make the Mustang a road racer. In the words of a friend, it was the car you bought to go embarrass rich guys in foreign cars on Mulholland Dr and won everlasting gearhead fame (for the Mustang and Shelby) with its success doing this.

The modern one stayed absolutely true to that much storied 1965 design brief, and will be much remembered for it too.

People that bought a GT350 thinking it was an updated GT500 don't know their Mustangs.

Yeah this is all true. Only now people buy the Camaro ZL1 1LE to do the same...

Bang on. I scratch my head at those that bought the GT350 thinking it was akin to the GT500, did you not test drive it ? The two share no commonality other than having GT & Shelby in their name. I bought the GT350 for it's superb chassis/handling prowess accompanied by a delightful engine that we'll never see gain.

Someone else mentioned going back to their 03' Cobra from a GT350 and could not be happier. To each their own, I enjoyed both of my 2003 Cobra's for what they were but the S550 platform and namely the GT350 make the Fox platform feel more like a Model T's.

Is the oil consumption issue really that bad or does it depend on how you break in the motor?

Not sure, but my anecdotal evidence is zero oil consumption in 3200 miles (first oil change at 1400 miles). I pulled a few tablespoons into the passenger side separator on track, but not enough to show low on the dipstick. No consumption and no oil in the separators under normal driving.

I like to think I broke it in well, but I just did what I'd do with any street car: brief full-throttle bursts at lower RPM to seat the rings without building up too much heat, gradually increasing the rev range used over the first ~600 miles, and no extended high-RPM runs for the first ~1k miles, then some HARD running, then an oil change. I think babying a performance car during break-in is a mistake, but high RPM with no load or high RPM under load for extended time periods is also a mistake.

Shit, our 16 5.0 burns a quart every thousand. More than the Shelby does so far

I own an 03 Cobra and now 17 GT350. The 03 Cobra (which I love) is such a piece of shit compared to the GT350. I will likely never sell the 03 because I am attached to it and it is still fun to drive, but its not even in the same stratosphere.

If you buy a GT350 to just drive in a straight line on the highway, I don't understand your mentality.

Not taking it on a road course is like having a super model wife and not banging her.

I am one for balance and agility. It is the reason I am considering selling or trading my unicorn wagon for a GT350 track pack car with someone. The CTSV has HUGE power potential and resale is fantastic but i want a track toy I can daily again.
