o2 sensors

I need rear 02 sensors.

according to ford parts desk, they are all GU2Z9G444A for all 4, front/rear and left/right.

I did some searching and according to the interweb this was not the case in early 2000s. they had separate part #'s front vs back, and left and right in the back. Actually the back ones are color coded blue / purple, fronts are both green.

are the original 02s interchangeable between front and rear?
and left/right from a functionality stand point.

I have a set of precat 02s sitting on the shelf and wonder if I can use them in the rear (knowing that the rear are only for emissions anyway)

I was always under the impression the rear O2's were there for a specific reason, to equalize what ever the upstream O2's were telling the ECU.

I thought front and back were the same.just different length harness

green,blue,purple. are plug connector colors on main car wiring..

green for fronts..

blue drivers rear,purple passenger rear.

front green are in 2 different harnesses,..

I did see a recent thread in the newer cobras on aftermarket o2s and not working ,and saying front and rear are different..

As I recall the rear sensors were referred to by Ford as cat monitors back in the day, and while the connectors looked the same they would not interchange with corresponding front 02 connector. The suffix for front 02s was 9G472 while the rears were 9G444, that is of course if somewhere along the line Ford changed them.

According to three ford dealers they are all 9h444a now. So i guess while the original front o2s would not swap with rear 02s, the rears can be used in the front

Thanks to everyone for the posts.
I actually bought the "approved" Bosch rear 02s last night at oriellys. They carried the right ford part # but were specified as left and right based on wire length which was side specific.
Funny part is, you can see were they broke the keys off that made the previous versions in-swapable location wise
