About a month ago I decided to take the terminator to town and on the way back I found a dodge charger to play around with. While I was messing with him my rear diff began to lock up. (Come to find out it was leaking fluid). So now it's time to rebuild the differential. I haven't taken it apart yet to see what all is messed up but I'm sure everything will need replaced.

As for questions. Where is the cheapest place to get factory replacement locker?
Which gears? It's currently supposed to have 3.73
Any tips on removing rear diff? Do I need to drop while IRS??

Car makes about 530 motor and little over 600 on juice! Rarely gets driven.

I had gotten all my parts from ford..

Ford racing had a kit for bearings
Kit for carbon fiber clutch pack
Kit for outer axle bearing and seal
Pinion flange for cobra

Not sure if ford racing stuff is out there.

I was able to pull rear out 1 side ..no need to pull complete irs

Last year I just did ring and pinion..

I took rear completely apart and clutches were new looking so I reused them and did basic ..got bearings from parts store this time and 355s off Craigs list

Question for you, do you have to take the rear end completely apart when replacing the rear differential pinion flange and seal? Or can this be done by just pulling the driveshaft?

Yes, remove pinion nut, flange and seal. Remember how many turns on nut to remove then put that many back on. Do not over torque crush sleeve

using old flange..

some stake a mark on nut and thread to get as close as it was before..

using a new yoke..I can' see how you can properly set preload..

guys who do it on a everyday , can most likely get close by feel in hand..

I did mine by feel ..bearing exploded.
paid a mechanic to replace all bearings and gear..his job lasted a week and howling started.
2nd time I had rear out of car ..and did myself this time..all by feel..

2yrs now..and have to reseal rear cover..noise is there still just not as loud..

This may be a dumb question but will any gears for a 8.8 work? According to American muscle they sell a cobra irs specific gear.

I usually go off of Lethal Performance for part numbers. According to their site, it looks like any 8.8 gears would fit. Never hurts to double check though. Appears like AM is the only place that list an IRS specific gear set. Good luck.
