If you all are getting that great of mpg then your really not driving the car. I didn’t buy a GT500 to average 18-20+ mpg. I’m sure you do beat the hell out of it but cmon man! We’re talking about mpg......
That is a problem I currently have. I beat on everything I own. Damn the tires damn the MPG. I'd think at some point I would out grow it but, I haven't. You ride beside me on the highway without passing or falling behind I'm downshifting and putting distance between us. I'm running my cruise control and you keep riding beside me passing me then slowing back down I'm downshifting putting distance. That motor got a 6200 red line, I'm going to hit 6000 at least one every trip I make. On my motorcycle I hate using 5th or 6th cruising because rpms are too low and I paid to hear that exhaust. Yeah immature but what are you going to do?

Whoa Whoa Whoa, I said highway MPG for mine, lol. On in town freeway driving and street driving I average 11-13.

I think its awesome these cars can have 600-700 hp and still get 20+ mpg cruising on the freeway.

Didn't the 10 have a unique axle back? Extra hanger or some such the only occurred that year.

The 2010 has the 2007-2009 2.5" exhaust with the 2-point muffler mounting/hangers, the 2011-up has the 2.75" with the 3-point muffler hangers............the 2010 difference?, it has the 2011 style body....

and as a reply about the 2010 again.....

As has been mentioned above, my 2008 has aluminum heads from Ford with the cast iron block as do all 2007-2010's, so again, I don't see what the issue is with the 2010? Is there some internet mis-information floating around about the facts of the 2007-2010 cars?

As for aluminum heads on the 2007-2014 GT500's......are there differences between the years or are they all for the most part interchangeable with "like performance" valve sizes, combustion chambers, intake/exhaust ports, etc. I think they all interchange? with only cam differences from Ford for 2013/14 and those 2013/14 cams are what were installed oem in the 2005/06 Ford GT 5.4? maybe I am incorrect?

13-14 had the Ford GT cams as factory.

13-14 heads also differ in that there are cooling jackets around the combustion chambers not found in 07-12. 13-14 blocks and head gaskets have the appropriate passages in place.

^^^Ok, thanks for that info., so the 5.4 DOHC alum. heads are 2007-2012 and then 2103/14. I believe these earlier heads also have "GT" on them? They may have been the same casting as the 2005/06 5.4 Ford GT?

One other thing I have read (but not verified).............."If" a 2007-2010 owner wants to upgrade their oem exhaust (or aftermarket) from the 2.50" to the 2011/12 2.75" (better flow), the 3-point muffler hangers from a 2011/12 will directly retro bolt on to a 2007-2010. I believe Ford went to the 3-point mounting for ease of assembly and it keeps the mufflers from swiveling on the 2-point mounting hangers.

I have found very little in the way of parts that will not interchange between these cars, some of the parts may be expensive to change from the earlier design to the later design, but for the most part even the "1-year" 2010 can benefit from anything offered for the 2007-2014.

If I try to hypermile mine, I can get 15 or 16 MPG combined. If I baby it and drive it all the way down to fumes, I get about 18 MPG combined. I'm glad to see somebody else is getting crappy mileage. I was beginning to think something was wrong with my car. Still better than an E60 M5, though!

...

According to an article from Mustang 360 (formerly 5.0 Mustang and Super Fords), "...there was no need to make a casting change in either the block or heads, which is one reason why both the head and block castings are carryover ['11/'12] 5.4 parts. ..." http://www.mustangandfords.com/news/m5lp-1203-2013-ford-shelby-gt500-trinity-5-8l-v8/ Also from reading that article, the whole '13/'14 GT500 car is code named Trinity, not just the engine.

Same castings, different machining. My opinion, it was just to make the heads and block more specialer for 13-14 :D

I would factor in a gen 3 with that massive 173 plus mono. I think that combo put these cars where they were meant to be in the street pecking order!

The machining wasn't even that much different. Literally all they did was drill a few extra holes for coolant passages around the exhaust valves. The "main" passages were already there to allow for it. It was an eye-opening article. To hear it told, the '13/'14 engine was a ground up redesign. Turns out, nearly everything was carried over with minor tweaks. Granted, those tweaks make a big difference when looked at as a whole. But it still wasn't a "new" or "vastly different" engine that we've been lead to believe by owners.

Samshady...maybe you can toss out your budget goals as that might help.
As far as GT vs GT500 a Mustang shop owner with a blown Coyote(670rwhp) drove my GT500 when it was at 680rw and was shocked at the amount of torque. He LOVED the feel of the GT500 pull around town.
Also...it was mentioned before in this thread used Boss 302's are fully forged with terrific handling and get big HP #'s if you have an extra 10K for Twin Turbos. But I'd not swap my '13 for a modified Boss. The GT500 will give you the highway thrill you seem to be looking for anywhere above 3000rpm. Or with simple bolt on mods or gears ....big punch 2500-3000rpm.

So now you're going to make me admit I'm cheap. I'd love to find one for 25k, but doubt I'm going to find anything in good condition at that price. Realistically I'm shooting at $30k-$35k not looking to go over that. So no 13 or 14s in that price range. Banks not going to do auto loan on a 2007. I don't plan on selling anything I get anytime soon but I'd like wiggle room, so 2008 and possible 2009 are out. So I've narrowed it to 2009-2012 coupe $35k and under. I've never looked at the Boss but I've kind of got my heart set on a GT500 or nothing.

When I was 20 years old I got a 67 chevelle ss396, 4 speed, was the coolest thing in the world rowing all that torque thru the gears, 35 years later I get that exact same feeling with my 08 and 3.73 gears, + I'm partial to the GT500 front end, imop it transforms the car to a completely different car, timeless.

Well I'm coming from a near 700 whp 11 gt500 and went to a 17 gt auto 670 roush. Do I miss the car, no but if I hadn't ever had one most likely yeah. Gt500 is an animal for hp and torque but truthfully all that torque blows the tires off unless from a low roll. Both cars are a ton of fun to drive either way. Nothing wrong with the 10 imo either. Looks of the newer cars plus the iron block. Much cheaper to replace if you blow a hole in it.

Well guys it's been awhile and I wanted to update. Thanks for all the advice, unfortunately for me you guys failed in talking me out of a gt500. Picked up a 2012 silver with blk stripes today. I'll post pics in the introduction thread. The car is outstanding and when boost kicks in wow.
