Tremec magnum xl with wide ratio 2:97 gears and 3:31's, 3:73's vs Mt-82 with 3:31 rear end gears. The final overall ratio = the combination of the tranny gears and the rear end gears. the rest is self explanatory.

Tremec and 3:31's

Final overall ratio. Mph @ 7500 rpm. Rpm @ 80mph

1st) 9.83 61.3 9793
2nd) 6.95 86.7 6924
3rd) 4.83 124.6 4814
4th) 3.31 182.0 3297
5th) 2.65 227.5 2638
6th) 2.09 288.8 2077

Tremec and 3:73's

1st) 11.58 52.0 11538
2nd) 8.19 73.5 8158
3rd) 5.69 105.8 5672
4th) 3.73 161.5 3716
5th) 3.12 193.1 3108
6th) 2.46 245.1 2448

Mt-82 and 3:31' s

1st) 12.11 49.7 12068
2nd) 8.04 74.9 8012
3rd) 5.59 107.7 5572
4th) 4.37 137.9 4352
5th) 3.31 182.0 3297
6th) 2.15 280.0 2143

As you can see the Tremec with 3:73's is very close to the Mt-82 with 3:31's. however the Tremec with 3:31's is way off the mark. So for those of you looking to do a Tremec swap in the near future you will need to start with a rear end gear change of a minimum of 3:73's just to get to what the mt-82 does with 3:31's! When i do my swap I'm going with 4:10's, i think that will be a prefect fit!

that's because the 1:1 gear in the MT-82 is 5th.. While in the Tremec it's 4th that is the 1:1.. Basically you'll want to start copying what the GT500 guys do for rear gear etc..

Well that's just the 4th gear obviously all the gears will be different, but if you copy the GT500 guys you should be pretty close :)

I'm about to do the same.

And to keep my gearing close to the same as the mt82 and 3.73's I'm going to need to go with at least 4.56's

The 2.97 first is the close ratio gearing

Yeah that sounds about right if you dont have fi.
I figure the 3:90's put me in the area of 3:55's with the mt-82!

If you had enough power wouldn't the Magnum with 3.31s make you a pretty good highway assassin setup(600whp+)? Like if you wanted to run with other high speed cars like C6Z's and such?

Or you can do like I did...

MT82+3.31's+28.6" rear tire= 50+mph in 1st, 80+mph in 2nd, 110+mph in 3rd, and 140+mph in 4th.

I'm N/A right now and love it, gunna be nasty with boost. Also, GREAT for 45-140 rolls.

Oh i forgot to mention that those ratios i posted are based on a 27 inch diameter tire which is what i have!!!!

Mt82 all the way lol. I love mine, have had zero issues. Maybe over winter ill tear it down for fun and make a thread. See if I can get a hold of some beefier parts.

Did some more # crunching for guys considering a tremec upgrade and keeping their 3:31's. The mt-82 equivalent to this is a rear end gear of 2:67. Which to me is way to high a gear for anything but the autobahn...lol

Just so you know... your Tremec and 3.73 calculations are off. 4th gear final ratio should be 3.73 not 3.90, not sure if the other gears in that section are correct or not... didn't do the math.

I have a tremec with 3.73's and this is dead on!!! I shift at 7500 also all those number are perfect!!

I noticed that too haha.

I wish the 1:1 was earlier in the mt82 sometimes. When I had the t56 in my GTO and C5, taking off in 3rd with the pedal to the floor, that 3-4 shift and few seconds into 4th was sooo much fun.

Unless that has zero to do with how fast it felt like it pulled and a billion other things factored into it. I dunno I'm retarded sometimes.
