I just recently swapped out the factory 'Base' model GT steering wheel with a brand new 2010 Shelby GT500 wheel that I got from Tousley Ford.

The factory wheel was the main part of the 'Base' GT interior that I didn't like.

I also changed the factory shift knob to a custom one that my wife got me for my birthday. It came from grabberpony.com. It is a black 'cue ball' knob and the 6 speed pattern is engraved in Grabber Blue! They have all the '05 and up Mustang colors available and you can get the ball itself or the engraving in those colors!

huge improvement! i like that steering wheel a lot... it would be even better if you could have gotten it with the grabber blue stitching.

Thanks

There was a steering wheel for sale on here that came out of a 'Premium' '11 GT that had the Grabber Blue stitching and that looked very nice. The 'Premium' GT wheel is leather wrapped, whereas the Shelby GT500 wheel is leather and suede wrapped.

Looks Great. I've had that exact steering wheel on order for 3 weeks now with my local Ford dealer. I think I will stick with the factory knob though. It matches the steering wheel.

I hear its an easy install. 15-20 minutes?

Yes, it is about a 15 minute install. We didn't even have to have a wheel puller!!

Are the harness connections all plug and play?

Yes, it is plug-n-play! My cruise control works and all the steering wheel buttons 'light' up when the lights are on.

The audio and Sync buttons don't work because they weren't available on the 'Base' GT model.

how much was the shifter handle and ball?

The shifter ball was $59.95 and the polished aluminum adapter that fits between the shift knob and the boot was $18.95. The shipping was free. They make these to order, it took about 3 weeks to get it.

3 major things bothered my about base interior:

steering wheel, pedals, and shift knob. hard to tell from the pics but I also installed the premium aluminum cover pedals as well which definitely give it a more sporty look.

to shed some light on the cost/shipping story, I was in discussion with mark at grabberpony for quite some time because he said their machine was broken and they were waiting on a part to come in so they could fix it which definitely added to the delayed shipping time...I believe they are all caught up to speed now though.

Where did you get the premium aluminum pedal covers?

That is the exact shift nob I want to get because it will match my interior. Looks as good as I hoped it would.
