I just finished my latest project around the house. I decided two months ago I would build my own swimming pool. So, I did my research and set out on my way. I knew I wanted a free form pool with a bench that has spa jets on it, as well as a beach entry with a built in umbrella sleeve. I still have the finish landscaping to do. I will be removing all the trees and bushes and replacing them with a built in firepit and three or four Fox Tail Palms.

So here are some pictures.

Nice job Adam:beer: Did you do all the work yourself, or design it then subcontract it out? It certainly looks great the way it all flows with your backyard.

Cheers

Looks great. Home improvement projects (that turn out good) always bring a sense of pride. I personally would like to see more trees but I know you said you aren't done with the landscape yet and I know leaves and debris are a pain to clean out of the pool.

It just seems a bit barren right now but I know you will take care of that in time.

I designed it. I did some of the work myself, other parts I subbed out. I had an excavator dig the hole. I did the LDS (layout, dig, steel). I subbed out the plumbing and shotcrete. I did the electrical rough in. I had a sub install the stone aggregate finish. I did the tile mosiac work.

Looks great!

Now you can get rid of your lawn mower too :D

Hell yes. I just eliminated 2000 sq/ft of grass.

any chance you can tell us what that cost you?

Before I built it I got quotes from 3 major pool companies in the area. The way it sits I was quoted $28K - $30K. The way it sits right now without the new landscaping I spent $14,800 including equipment (two whisper flo pumps, filter, aquarite gold salt chlorinator, etc).

looks good man

Thanks.

That looks awesome

Thanks.

that is awesome. Nice job.

I am quite happy with how it came out. It will be even nicer once I build the firepit and seating.

Holy schnikes. Well done.

Happy schnikes.

Looks great man. What are the depths?

The sunshelf/beach entry is 6" to 12" then 3.5' to 5.5'

Well done man, that looks awesome! What all did it take for you to do it by yourself?

What do you mean?

Looks great Adam! Wanna build mine when your done?

Sure. I am now helping two neighbors do theirs once they found out how much I saved.

Most major pool companies price this way: 10% to the sales person, 35% profit, and 55% materials, supplies, and sub-contractor labor. So, by eliminating the first two you can save about 40 - 45% of retail, even more if you can do some of the subbed work yourself.

Like I said it isnt landscaped yet. I will be adding the fire pit plus three Fox Tail Palms, a Robellini Palm, and a bunch of Crotins.

I still want to be able to see the water and my boat.

how long of a process was it?

After I received the permit, from dig to water was 5 weeks. If not for me traveling I could have had it done in three weeks.

In this house I remodeled two of the four baths already. I am going to tear out the shower and build a rainfall steam shower with 10 body sprays that has the digital remote at the entrance.

I just hosted an SVTP party, why werent you there?

so since you built it yourself did you have to install a child fence?

Pool looks good.

Whether you G.C. it or a company does, the homeowner in the State of Florida must elect one of four methods of child safety. I dont like the child fence, so I have the five foot aluminum fence with plunger style gate latches at 54". I also have a heavy duty screen on my lanai with a self closing gate and latch at 54" and the remaining house windows that open to the enclosed pool area have a 90+ dB alarm on them. That meets code.
