I have a 99 cobra I recently bought. The car has never been low on oil since I have had it. I run 7 qrts of mobil 1 5w30. Is something wrong with the engine or is this normal sounding? Thanks for the help.

i don't really hear anything out of the normal...you may just be hearing the valve train noise...they can be a little noisey since it has timing chains and all that...i think you are ok.

I guess I should have been a little more specific. I am talking about the knocking sound. It kind of sounds like the exhaust in the video. It is not very loud but is present all the time, except under hard acceleration, I cannot hear it.

It's hard to tell in the vid since the exhaust is kind of masking the noise. My advice is don't gas it until you get a better idea of what it is lol could be anything really, try getting a better vid of the noise if you can

O buddy, if you drove it low on oil you could be in for a surprise. Describe the noise more. Is it knocking or clicking or tapping? Does it do it when the car is warm, cold or both? Does it follow the rpms?

Hard to tell w/ vid sound but you may have a problem. There is a faint rhythmic exhaust pulse that might indicate problems. Perform a compression test and a leak-down test and see if this shows any problems.Could be as simple as plug/wire/etc. or major issue w/bent/burned valve/seat or valve component part. Good Luck.

That's the bitch with these motors...they make tons of noise that on a normal car would have you freaking out.

Honestly sounds normal.

Alright guys, thanks for the help so far. I was able to get the car in the air tonight and crawl under it while it was running. I tried to get a better video but couldnt hear the sound on the videos. It sounds like it is coming from the bell housing area. More so on the passenger side. It definitely doenst sound like a rod knock or bearing. I put a screw driver on different parts of the block from underneath and cant hear anything unusual either. Anyway, earlier this week, I pulled the cops one at a time and the noise didnt go away. While I had the covers off I went ahead and changed the plugs. Kind of baffled by this. I not blowing smoke out of the tailpipes, and it hasnt used any oil. No drop off in performance either. No lights or codes. Anymore ideas?

Update: I replaced the midpipe today with an o/r h pipe and new gasket. The knocking noise, was in fact, an exhaust leak. I have never heard an exhaust leak sound like that. New pipe on and the car sounds great.
