Did you install a new TOB sleeve and stock pivot ball?

We pulled out the adjustable pivot ball and the TOB sleeve that had been cut down for the RAM and installed a stock pivot ball and a new D&D TOB sleeve. We also installed a new pilot bearing and a new TOB. The new clutch came with both of the bearings, but I opted to use OEM Ford bearings. They seem to work much better than aftermarket ones...

Thats good to hear. I assume you have a 26 spline input shaft from before?

Fla sea,
Is it broken in yet? What are your impressions with; pedal feel, chatter, floater disc noise, grip, clutch release?

Looks like you did a bit more than I did. I've had mine in for over 1,000 miles, now, and there's only chatter when you don't get the right rpm(like I had with the stock one). It's nice not having the heavy disengagement, as I'm 6'5".

No it's not broken in yet. It will probably take me 4-6 months to reach 500 miles. Pedal feel is probably close to stock and a little more firm than the RAM dual disc. No chatter or floater plate noise. This clutch is absolutely incredible!

Hello everyone. I just wanted to give some info regarding the above post regard the RST. I recently had my shop install a Spec 3 and I personally hated it due to the chatter/shudder getting into 1st gear -chattered like hell in the trans area and sounded like wheel hop in the rear-, although I was told this is normal during break-in. It did get a lot better around 1000 miles -not completely gone though- but I jumped the gun around the 400 mile mark and ordered the McLeod RST/FRPP TOB/Lethal Sleeve/Clutch Fork/ and replaced the center plate in the Fidanza aluminum flywheel for a second time as I replaced it for the new Spec 3 as well. Anyway, the RST does have an incredibly light pedal feel -softer than my wife's Scion!- but it does still have a slight chatter/shudder getting into 1st, but it is a fraction of what the Spec's chatter was at the same point-in-time during break-in. Now, I'm only at about 300 miles into break-in with the RST so this may be premature as it may completely disappear very soon, but from what other posts I've read and what my tuner explained -they have installed dozens of McCleod twin disc clutches on many high performance cars- this too is normal and expected from even the McCleod twin disc, but should completely disappear with time. Just keep in mind the chatter/shudder from the very beginning was substantially less than what I experienced with the Spec 3, but it does still exist with the RST. Personally, I do not drag or abuse my car, and driveability is of utmost priority which is why I replaced the Spec with the RST, but to be honest, I was and still am somewhat disappointed that there has been even an ounce of shudder with this expensive, and arguably the best, clutch setup on the market. Other than getting into first, the clutch shifts, feels, and performs perfectly although as I said, I'm still in the break-in period. Maybe someone out there can explain to me why even the organic twin disc shudders when I thought this upgraded clutch would not have such an issue from the start. Can anyone confirm that even a 'softer' organic material twin clutch can/will chatter during break-in? Maybe because I have an aluminum vs. steel flywheel?? Anyway, I do enjoy the clutch and pedal effort but I simply hate the slight chatter from a start. This setup costs way too much to put up with this. I hope it goes away soon! Sorry for the long post.

You need to call McCleod and talk to Lee.(I believe that's the name of their Mustang guy) Your clutch is not installed correctly. The RST is a very good clutch, and should not chatter on you. I was having problems with mine, and I called McLeod, and he directed us right to the problem over the phone. The problem for me was the pressure plate was torqued down unevenly. This would of probably not mattered with a single disk clutch, but with a TD clutch you have to have everything setup correct as there is so little extra space in there that there is very little room for era. When setup correctly a TD clutch is a great thing.

Thanks for the info. I will call Lee tomorrow. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the clutch -actually my left leg has atrophied since using it...hahaha...I can literally push the clutch in with my index finger!- but I assumed there would be zero chatter from the start...BUT, it seems from the more posts I read here -and from what my tuner said-, it is fairly common for even the RST to have some chatter for a little while during break-in. I don't know how your chatter compared to mine, but it has gotten better about 300 miles into it. In the end, despite my shop installing many of these clutches, there is always the possibility of error. I'll keep you updated...Thanks again.

Hello All. I also have some minor shudder with a new RST McLeod clutch in my 2007 GT500. The clutch is a vast improvement over the stock unit, but I am surprised that there is any shudder. The shop that put it in was careful about torques, and even took photos of the install in case there became an issue. I am at about 300 miles of the break in and the clutch works great, except for this issue. I hope the shudder goes away with a little more time.
