I'm definitely following this one. You have one of the nicest cobras on this forum and your builds and documentation of it are always first class. Good luck

It should move pretty good  lol!! I can't wait to see the results.

I enjoyed working on my Cobra but if I didn't get my drive time in I was not happy about it. Don't you get frustrated with the car being immobile so much? I know you don't put many miles on it when it is together but you can't even start it up lol

Hell and yes! This thing is gonna be the boogie monster in all of our closets (except for some of you who don't have room in your closet for non-gay things).

After seeing what my 2.8 upper only little Eaton did on my engine quite similar to this, I can't wait to see what comes of this. Super sweet build, can't wait to see the progress and it running again.

Are you planning on oversized valves too or just a good clean head porting and work over?

Damn...gonna be HUGE #s :)

considered it, but for longevity and RPM capability down the road.....decided to stay with stock stroke.

just a dumb question here possibly but im from the old school. ive had 10 fox body's with 5.0+ motors strokers and such. anytime ive ever stroked and bored a motor it was always a gain in rpm usually (other factors also like heads and cams also ect...)

so why would it be different for a 4.6L motor?

i mean yes i suppose if you bore and stroke that it will reduce the engine life because of more power so more wear. but besides that how does this negatively affect RPM?

dunno my 408w like 7800 rpms. once 8200 rpms. wear is more due to the rod / stroke ratio. greater force on the cylinder walls

Yes the wear was the side wall load. But beyond that it has always produced higher rpm's.

Just making sure I'm not crazy and misread or do not understand.

i think a 1/2 stroke will have more wear ,say to a 4.6 to a 5.3 stroker cause its only half of that . i should have went 5.3 stroker but the cash was not there.to many cars i have.

Appreciate the compliment!

Me too

Frustrated, not really. I enjoy the art of working on it. It's therapeutic and a great stress reliever for me. I dont drive in the 100+ degree summertime anyway, It's really only a spring/fall car.

A List and no pictures.....

Hard to take pics of stuff I "aint" got lol! I did finish fuel system install over weekend, so here are some pics......oh and 1 of the engine bay for you!

Sticking with stock sized custom valves on MHS stage 2 ported heads with upgraded valve springs.

Stock stroke motors will live longer due to less stress on crank, cylinder side walls, etc. A stock stroke motor has more RPM potential than a stroker. Ask John @ MP. He says he limits his strokers to 7000 rpm for a reason.

I am doing this build with longevity in mind. I thought about the stroker, given that I dont drive much, but settled on the added displacement of the bigger 3.700" bore and 10.7:1 compression with stock stroke. I dont disagree that a stroker motor will last along time, especially with my driving style.....however, it is unneccessary for me, I will have my hands full as is!

Yep.... I just like the idea of a stock stroke....personal preference!

The mod motors already have a super long stroke as it is. I wouldn't want it any longer. I also would much rather unshroud the valves for the added head flow to make the setup more efficient. Like others have said...mostly personal preference. But even from a numbers standpoint, I'd be going big bore over stroker any day with a mod motor.

Btw op, how's the noise with the new pump?

3.7 bore on the stock stroke is almost a square engine...doesn't get much better than that :) Maybe de-stroke it a little and spin it to the moon if it was N/A hehe.

What do u mean by square engine. Again I've been around push rod motors most all my life.

I assume you mean equal bore and stroke?

While we are on the subject. What is the stock stroke? 3.552 or what?

Thanks and sorry if questions seem elementary to some. But I'm sure I'm not the only one gaining knowledge here.

Well, I guess it's more square stock than the 94mm bore. Either way, what he said above in post #30 after the pics is exactly what I found and was told; but I was never interested in changing the stroke.

Cant speak for the pushrod engines, will just say I chose stock stroke for MY personal modular application as opposed to a stroker. For MY personal build, I wanted the stronger Boss block, the bigger bore to unshroud those intake valves, and go higher with compression. With respect to my personal desires for the car.....I chose this path....with longevity in mind, potential RPM increases in the future, etc etc.

All comes down to personal choice. Am I leaving some cubes on the table? YES. Am I leaving more power on the table? YES. But let's be honest, 5.0 liters of displacement, 10.7:1 compression, whipple 2.9 at any boost I desire, E85......much more power than I will want or need....with a tad less stress than a stroker goes thru.

Lets get back on focus because I'm sure the OP does not want a thread jack.

Sounds like a nice build. Should be a monster when it's done.

I personally dont think youre leaving much power on the table honestly. Nothing an extra lb of boost wouldnt get you back anyways.

That and the fact that the car will never see the track makes all the power almost useless on the street anyway. LOL. Should make for some fun 3rd and 4th gear pulls though. :burnout:

Sick build! What type of tool did you use to crimp those bands at all the hose ends?

oh yes......3rd is gonna rock! i think JC needs to give me his MickeyTs, since he obviously is not gonna use them.

Update bro. Kooks LTs (3" collector) and 3" xpipe will be here tomorrow. Got my poly motor mounts and a bunch of other small goodies today (fittings, wideband bung, etc etc)

Talked to Johnny @ Crosslink today about his ceramic coating he does. Headers and X will get the treatment. They polish it up to shine....outta be sweet.

Home depot has the tool. It's just a special hand held clamping tool, designed to grab the crimp on these style clamps. Just squeez tight and forget about it.
