VMP TVS or 2.9 Whipple...?

I wanna know what you guys think... I got my money and I'm either gonna get the VMP TVS or 2.9 whipple...? What are the pros and cons of both and what would I better off going with? My goal is 700rwhp... If there is a old thread about this then give me the link if not I wanna hear what you guys think? After going to a dyno session yesterday I'm dying for more power... My car only yielded 512rwhp and 480tq yesterday but the car sat in the sun all day during 100 degree weather for 3 hours before hitting the rollers...

I have been debating this as well. The whipple is actually a little cheaper apples to apples. I think they are about 3340 through lethal with the svtp discount, and could get the 3.35" pulley that should be 17psi or so. The whipple should make a little more poeak power at that level as there will be less parasitic loss that way. The TVS might make a little more torque doen low, but neither will be "soft" with the torque they will make.
To cross 700whp, you will also probably need the lower pulley on the TVS, but certianly not on the whipple, so the TVS actualy gets more expensive if that is what you want.

I am trying to pick up a used KB blower, but if it doesn't happen I will be picking a TVS or whipple. The more I think about it, the whipple seems like the better choice. I don't think either would be a bad chouce though.

91 octane tune... Car was heatsoaked for sure... The dyno went down a bunch of times... The guy I was with there dynoed 551rwhp last week and yesterday only made 518rwhp... Everyone there was out by 30-50 rwhp... I thought I was in the 550-570 range... I haven't loaded my 93 tune in cause I wanna make as much power with the 91... The other guy was in his 93 tune too... The only difference between me and him was he had kooks longtubes with catted x-pipe and I had L&M 66mm tb and ported plenum other than that we had the same mods...

Really depends on your ultimate goal. If you want 700 rwhp then the TVS is about as easy as your gonna get. I went TVS not really looking to go over 700 especially on stock internals. Whipple will be a better choice if you decide to build a motor down the road and shoot for 800+ rwhp.

Agree. On what I have seen, Whipple will have higher peak horsepower, and a higher HP potential above 700Rwhp. TVS will be stronger at low and medium RPMs than the Whipple. Some have even stated that the Whipple feels 'stock' at lower RPMs. This lower RPM range is precisely where I want more power. Also, Whipple has some fitment issues IMO, like requiring silicon sealant, and it may rub your firewall which requires moving the engine mounts forward. For these reasons, I will go with the TVS.

Just swapped to the whipple2.9 and the install was very straight forward on my 07. There are 2 bolts that were a PITA and I needed to swap out my crank pulley to the 08+ but other than the 2 bolts that took roughly 15-30 a piece to get fully seated it's very simple. I personally do not like the look of the TVS, and liked the Whipple look with the hood open better for my tastes. But to each his own. Either way you can't go wrong. I would do the TVS if you do not care about the diminished looks of the blower (in my opinion), and get Justin to tune the car. Everything I have ever seen on him is STELLAR ! Plus he is at the leading edge on our cars and always trying new combos on his TVS car.

I chose the TVS because I have a stock block and 3.73's. I wanted the torque down low for these gears. Mostly street with an occasional trip to the strip. Looking to keep max rpms under 6500 rpms too. If you have or plan to keep 3.31's or 3.55's, then the TVS might be the better choice for the low end torque.

Built motor (higher rpms) and 3.90's or 4.10's, or you're big on highway pulls, I'd go KB LC or Whipple over the TVS for sure.

What is everyone's thoughts on this. The whipple compresses air before the by-pass valve, so it draws alittle more power at cruise. The TVS shovel the air and doesn't compress in the head unit, so when the by-pass is open it doesn't draw as much power because the air is gone before any compression.

Really the same basic value as a VMP TVS. For $3500 it comes with the 2.5 pulley, larger ported elbow, and Justin throws in the tune.

ok....as allot have stated if you are looking for higher peak HP then the whipple....the vmp tvs straight out of the box on my car with stock Throttle body...stock lower and only other change (besides normal Ford Racing Cold air intake) I have is high flow catted x pipe....with just the high flow catted x pipe...and the vmp tvs I am at 676 rwhp and 666 lbs torque (which is just plain evil, LOL) with a TB change, larger injectors and COOLER temps (it was 100 during my dyno time) I am pushing over 700rwhp....the VMP TVS pushes 16-18lb boost with the 2.5 pulley...I think the vmp tvs is a better value at its price compared to the ford racing stock tvs as to acheive similar results on the Ford racing tvs you willl need some other mods... either SC the VMP TVS or the Whipple will not disappoint you at all....good luck with it...

great question....I dont think anyone can say without a shadow of doubt that the CURRENT TVS as it is now will be stock on the gt500 in the future stock... I have read and heard from many repliable sources that a TVS could be on them or a version of the TVS.... now whether or not that automatically translates to an easy swap from the newer model gt500 to now is pure speculation at this point.

Nope as long as you keep the hp under 700 you should be fine.
