Nice! How did you foot brake it to 3k rpm though? I thought you said you could only foot brake it to 2k rpm?

It took a LOT of foot. The rear suspension must have been twisted like a pretzel, but it worked. Believe me, it was pushing it. The real problem isn't holding the car it's what it does loading the rear suspension before it launches. If you wind it so much that it takes all of the movement out of the suspension, the suspension can't move and launches like there is no suspension. Totally different than a trans brake launch if you think about it. No matter how much you push a TB launch it doesn't wind-up the rear suspension. A good 60ft off a FB launch is hard because of what it does to the suspension BEFORE you launch it.

I posted this earlier in the tread.

I didn't mean to hi-jack this thread. Just wanted to clarify some facts about the BC 4R and show what can be done with one. Very interested in seeing what a turbo with 100 more RWHP will do with this set-up.

Nice swap! It looks like about an 8% power loss which isn't too bad. I've seen worse. With the lock-up on, it seems like it would be less of a loss. I too am not a huge fan of the t-brake and will just use the foot brake.

I've talked to Darrin also about one of these. Very knowledgeable and answered all my stupied questions.

So how do you like it after driving it a bit more?

I like it a lot. It really smoothed the car out a lot on low speed driving. Driving through parking lots and whatnot was a real pain with the 6 speed. The highway driving is great, and I still have 3.73 gears. My only problem is I have a small annoying leak from the tail shaft seal, and I can't seem to get it to stop after changing the seal a couple times, and even the whole tail housing.

I have been loving the hell out of my 4r70 swap. I dont have the same converter as you guys but mine is a little tight as well. The stall was 3200 however I can only foot brake the car to about 2500. Although I am not complaining the car drives very well, and boost comes on great now.

I have been fighting the same tailshaft issue. I am on my 3rd seal. I ended up pulling the extension housing and having aamco put a new bushing and seal in. However the seal they used blew completely out on me (like the entire seal came out of the trans) so i went up to ford and bought another oem one and sealed the metal to metal contact points with a little RTV just to keep it in the extension housing. I havent had anymore drips but I just put the new ford seal in on Saturday. Maybe 40 miles on the car since then.

I can say even with all the little hiccups I am really happy I made the swap.

I am on a fully jerry mod stock VB with a Baumanattor controlling everything. Lockup and all. I havent wired my reverse lights in yet either but I dont think it will be to hard at all for me anyways cause I am running 2 harnesses. The T56 for the 02's and VSS and then I run the 5.0 harness for the solenoids and trans controls. I just hard wired the VSS off the T56 to the 5.0 harness.

What are you guys doing with the clutch sensors? I still have the clutch pedal in my car I just tucked it under the carpet for now. However I got the mach 1 brake assembly in the garage about to swap it in. I was thinking of running the clutch safety switch to a push button and hiding it somewhere as a little theft control. I read a few others just ziptie it but I want to be able to use my cruise control again.

Wired my clutch switch to a push pull switch..I was thinking the same thing.. a little theft control..

I got the leaky seal issue fixed by shortening the DS a little more. I went from 1/2" of travel to a full 1" of travel, and it hasn't leaked since.

On a sad note.

I have an unfortunate update. I went to the track for the first time even though my converter was waaay too tight, just to see how it would do. I turned my boost down on my street pump/meth tune from 23#'s to 20#'s and added some 110 just for safety and made a couple partial passes and checked my logs to make sure everything was looking good. I don't have a trans brake and could only foot brake the converter to about 2200 rpm, so needles to say it was a total dog out of the hole. 2.0 60's to be exact. after the first couple hits I went up for another one, and after my burnout i tried to stage and the car acted like it was in neutral for a couple seconds, then engaged and made the pass fine. (a terrible 11.10 @ 136 with a 2.0 60'). I checked my fluid level and it was perfect. so Like a dumbass I thought it was just a fluky thing and went to make another pass, and this time I didn't even make it to the water box before it acted like it was in neutral again, but this time never came back.

After trailering the car back to my friends shop and dropping the pan, I found the problem. Here is the dip stick I had gotten using the part number from one of the swap threads on the forums.

Here is the one out of my friends car that I slid in to compare.

here they are laying beside each other.

I didn't take the pan off when I got the tranny to check the dip stick. I keep learning lessons the expensive hard way. Hopefully I can save someone else by posting my stupidity up here.

Damn that sucks. I just read this whole thread and was like wow!! and then like NO!!!!!

I feel your pain!

I never trust what I read in the forums until I confirm it at least 3 times somewhere else. You just never know if that person knew what they were talking about when they hit that post button.

Anyone know how to get in touch with Darrin @ BC Automotive? I am in need of a trans and I have called the number he has on what seems to be his website and no answer....just voice mail every time I call. I also tried like 3 email addresses I found that belong to him and still nothing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ya, he kinda fell off the face of the earth. I had to take my tranny to a local guy to fix because Darrin stopped answering my calls. Before that he had told me he wasn't doing the trannys full time anymore and he was starting an HVAC business, so maybe he stopped building trannys completely now.

That's what I thought I was using also going from the part number I got off Modularfords, but the dip stick you see in the pics that is the right length is what FB sent with their tranny for my friends car. My local tranny guy that fixed my tranny also gave me a different dip stick that was shorter. Who knows, but it sucked. Car feels awesome now though with the looser converter, so I guess it wasn't all bad.

Use the [email protected]. He has been difficult to get a hold of lately. But he does answers his emails just give him a day or two to get back with you. Its better to email over calling him. I only found this thread because I am looking for what kind of fluid to run in his transmission.

I was going to run just regular Mercon V but this guy ran Mobil 1...decisions.

I have a trans from Darrin and he said to use Mobil 1 Synthetic. It's good for all vehicles. I use a Mobil Multi Vehicle sythetic blend which is also good. The only place I could find it is online. It's cheaper than the Mobil 1.
