Did anyone else notice the incredibly short post Unleashedbeast posted on the Oil thread for the SVTPerformance 5.0?
Common man, your slackin, big paragraphs or don't bother!

Good post Sid, and very nice pictures. You are correct about the RP filter being top notch, as I would choose it over any Mobil 1 EP or K&N oil filter every time. The newer evolution of synthetic media/fibers being utilized in top tier filters allow for a much better filtration without inhibiting oil flow.

How long should it take for me to get my results back from OAI:??: I sent it UPS and verified that it was received on Friday the 19th! :shrug:

Overall, you have a first UOA that is common to all Shelby engines from the factory fill. I'm adding your information to the Excel spreadsheet list. Thanks again for the TBN information. I now know the estimated mileage limits of MC 5W-50 (~7,500 miles - Ford got that part right).

Silicon was in red (critical) because of the sealers used in assembly. This will reduce each oil change and will remain around ~20 ppm.

Oxidation was in red (critical)....I don't understand why. It was less than 60..odd.

Viscosity was orange (abnormal) because the lubricant has sheared down to a light 40 grade. No worries there, Ford wants it to shear. 50 grade lubricants are too viscous for use in this engine.

Fe (iron) - 27 ppm
  • Wear metal - common range for first MC oil change interval

Al (aluminum) - 10 ppm
  • Wear metal - common range for first MC oil change interval

Cu (copper) - 34 ppm
  • Wear metal - common range for first MC oil change interval

Pb (lead) - 17 ppm
  • Wear metal - common range for first MC oil change interval

Sn (Tin) - 0 ppm
  • Wear metal - common range for first MC oil change interval

Si (silicon) - 315
  • Dirt from leak in air filter or assembly process, possible anti-foaming additive in engine lubricants, or from sealers used in the engine during assembly. This will decrease every oil change and drop to normal by the 4th oil change.
  • Number is high due to the assembly process and sealants used. Common to every Shelby on the first oil change.

Ca (calcium) - 2016 ppm
  • Detergent additive

Moly (molybdenum) - 41 ppm
  • Anti-wear additive - primary substitute for decreased levels of ZDDP (Zn and P)

B (boron) - 189 ppm
  • Anti-wear additive - primary substitute for decreased levels of ZDDP (Zn and P)

Zn (zinc) - 779 ppm
  • Primary anti-wear additive

P (phosphorous) - 686 ppm
  • Primary anti-wear additive

TBN (total base number) - 2.53
  • Factored number of remaining detergent additives. This keeps engine oils from turning acidic to prevent eating the metals within an engine. Less than 1.0 is considered critical. Oil could have been used an estimated 2,500-3,500 more miles. This is my FIRST UOA with TBN on Motorcraft. Thanks again!

Viscosity @100 13.5 (19.9 virgin)
  • Normal for MC 5W-50. It sheared to a very light 40 grade lubricant, and I'm surprised it didn't shear any more than this after 5,000 miles.

Oxidation 46
  • Base stock "rusting" - still in normal usable range.

Nitration 18
  • Not important to know this under most circumstances for engine lubricants.

Fuel dilution <1
  • Fuel discovered in the oil was less than 1%. I'm not surprised, the Shelby engine properly tuned never dilutes engine oil.

Soot/Water <.1
  • Soot matter and water less than 1% - this means no coolant leaks and good filtration.

First post has been updated with NP's UOA information.

I'm already over 6000 miles, so in about 2 months I will give you another MC sample. But I think that I am going to switch to Mobil 0W-40 or Amsoil 10W-40 with the Amsoil filter. Do you have preference of one over the other?

Obviously I prefer the shear stability and ultra low NOACK that 10W-40 Amsoil provides. Mobil 1 0W-40 will shear to a heavy 30 grade lubricant over time and has a higher NOACK. You could use Mobil 1 0W-40 with better results than MC 5W-50.....but I personally would stick with Amsoil, as it's more robust.

Your second sample will look a little better than the first.

I have seen a few UOAs on the M1 0W40 that suggests it is very shear stable especially for a 0W40 with a viscosity index of 185. It does start out as a thin 40 grade ~ 13.4 cSt. Here's a link to a recent VOA of the SN formula.
