IRS on a 1000HP car?

I've been strongly considering doing an 03/04 IRS swap into a turbo Fox body that makes 903/955 RWHP/TQ in lieu of the conventional built SRA with TA and PHB. I've been asking around and have gotten mixed feedback. So I thought I would post up here and see what people think.

If I were to use a full tilt boogie or maximum motorsports delrin kit with stock 03/04 axles or DSS level 3+ axles would the IRS live with the occasional launch with sticky tires?

Jefe, the car will be driven on the street about 90% of the time and if I do that it to the track I'll launch it at 3000-3500RPM. Thanks for the links!

Please don't waste your money on any L-* halfshaft. They will cause FAR more problems for you than they are supposed to cure.

So, do you suggest stock over the level 'x' halfshafts?

Or is that a subtle way of saying go solid?

Power is NOT what breaks halfshafts. Rubber in the IRS and unstabilized IRS components mounted in rubber, along with wheel hop, is what breaks halfshafts.

Level-* halfshafts are NOT the answer to fixing an IRS. Removing all of the rubber IS!

The only way I would recommend a solid axle is if you had a dedicated drag car that was hauled on a trailer to the drag strip. THAT'S IT.:-D

If your car is set-up to corner the IRS is a great idea. But in a car that makes 900 hp, not so much because at that power lever you will be a hairs breath away from swapping ends if you get a little too deep into the pedal. This sound more like a drag racer where I would keep the SRA.

Personally, I would ditch the IRS immediately. I did after breaking the IRS and I'm pleased with the solid axle.

If drag racing is your primary concern and you don't care about ride comfort or handling, then you may be happy with an SRA.

BUT........................... most of the people that I know drive their car on the street 99% of the time and that should be taken into consideration. :read:

From the OP post it seems to me that this is more of a street brawler than drag car. I think the irs swap is a great idea. If you do this I don't see an issue with launching. FTBR, irs brace or upgraded diff cover and a Detroit tru trac you will be fine.

99.9% street car here with a solid axle and its just fine. It's a mustang. Buy a BMW if you want comfort. There are zero creature comforts in a cobra, the interior sucks, seats suck, etc...and you're worried about ride quality? Odd.

What's wrong with a SRA on the street? Tons of cars use a SRA just fine.
