26 spline spec 3+ in my heavy truck. Hopefully it holds when i hit the track soon. My next clutch will be dual disk though, unsure of brand or type.
i got the McLeod RXT twin disc in mine and it's a daily driver i love this clutch it feels way better than the spec 3 i had in my last car and it's smooth and has less chatter
I also have a spec stage 3+ with aluminum flywheel. The reason I came to this thread is because i hate it for street use. Im 90% street use these days, the stage 3 spec is incredibly harsh and grabby, as stated above. Im also looking for a smooth stock like feel that can hold some power 640ish in my case.
I LOVE my RXT. Because of my cams, I have to get the revs up a bit and slip the clutch a lot to get a smooth easy start and its very easy to do with the RXT. Its as smooth as stock, but its a lot lower pedal pressure than stock. And I'm pushing about 620 rwhp right now on my break-in tune. You can't go wrong with this clutch.
So you can slp that clutch on your take off? Where is the cheapest place to get one? My dilemma is a buddy of mine has a built c4 he will sell me for $1500...and i dont think spending $1000+ for a clutch makes much sense.
Posi of Posi Performance sells them and I think you can get the best price from him. I didn't find that out until after I bought mine from Lethal Performance for $882.28 once discount (SVTPERF for 5% off), taxes, and shipping are all figured in.
U got the rst for that price or rxt?
So can a person buy a stock replacement clutch with a 26 spline?
The clutch slipped on the second pass in the 1/8 mile and the disks melted basically it coated everything inside the bell housing. I have pictures on my home computer of the aftermath and the video of the track pass where it started slipping just after the 60ft mark. Another funny excuse McLeod used when I showed them the video is that they said that I ride the clutch when I drive and that I was riding it in the video they said they could tell this by watching the video. How you can tell that I have no clue. But I then proceeded to tell them that my stock clutch was still holding fine when I took it out and only replaced it because to prevent an issue like I had with the RST from happening. So if Im a clutch rider with a drag car as they like to put it how was my stock clutch still in really good shape and never gave me a problem, he had no excuse for that. I did get refunded for the 2nd one I had to buy to replace it eventually after threatening to dispute it with my credit card company. At that time I was told by a very well known vendor on here that they did not want to do business with me anymore. And told me the new RST that I bought to replace from them would not have any warranty on it and that basically if it happened again they would do nothing and not to call them about it. I kept very good record from the install to the failure with pics and video of everything pretty much and all was done by professionals which both company's seemed not care about at all. In all it took about 2 months from the time McLeod got the burned up clutch back for me to get my money back for the 2nd. So far i have put about a thousand miles on it since then no track time on it seems to be doing ok. But I have no confidence in it to take it back to the track and after talking to McLeod and the vendor neither did they. I would love to get the RST independently tested to see if it really can hold 800hp because There is some serious doubts about that from my findings and from some of the comments they made to me about it. But I guess for you if your going to test its holding power you should do it sooner than later so that there should be no excuse about long term wear on it or high mileage on it or what ever else they can come up with. I did notice that now they have a disclaimer on it that says not for competition use and the vendor has one that says not for use at the drag strip now. Thought that was very interesting. Hope you don't have the same problem I did. But keep good records of everything just in case. My car is a garage queen also it only has 11,800 miles on it and a handful of track passes on it since I bought it in 2004. This is the only issue I have ever had with it.
Well in all fairness maybe I should say that I was only dealing with one person at McLeod his name was Lee and hopefully his handling of the whole situation with it is not typical of McLeod as a whole I hope. Yea I got the clutch threw lethal and after almost a month Derek and Jared were finally able to get the situation settled with McLeod. I really appreciated all the phone calls and emails and understanding that those guys had with me in this situation because if it wasn't for them I don't think this would have turned out very well for me. Also it was really hard to get in touch with McLeod or get any return calls or emails from them for me and for Lethal.
I installed a 26 spline McLeod RXT in my son's 608 RWHP 03 Cobra. The clutch grabs at the top of the pedal and utilizes full pedal stroke to completely engage/disengage, leaving no room for TOB freeplay. Hill starts are terrible! Worst of all, between 1,400 to 1,750 RPM's in 3rd & 4th gear, the clutch resonates an intolerable noise, sounding like a loose exhaust. Two speed shops told me it was due to the lack of a Marcel on the clutch discs. Reinstalling the stock clutch eliminated the noise and proved their point. Tech support at McLeod is awful! Lee is the only one who knows what he's talking about, but he is seldom available and doesn't return phone calls, which leaves you to talk to the lead tech support guy who thinks "a 10 spline input shaft is all you should ever need". For me, McLeod is a one and done, and I'll be ordering a Centerforce DYAD which has dampening for both clutch discs.
I voted spec but 3+
