Hmm, what type of fuel? I'm running a 2.9 with a 3.25 upper and stock lower with 100 octane unleaded street legal fuel and making 688. It is very doable, just depends on the fuel type and whether you run NO2 or meth.

Whipple site: Whipple Industries

The 2.9 Whipple AKA W175AX can run a max boost of 30 PSI, max RPMs of 18k and max continuous RPMs of 18k. That is more than enough for 700rwhp in our cars. just do the right setup and you should well over it.

That pulley combo will definitely make the power you are shooting for, but you are going to have to run race fuel or E85 to protect the engine. Pump gas won't be a good idea at those boost and power levels, unfortunately.

Sorry I should have been more specific, I got the whipple and all of the supporting mods from you guys at lethal: DX dual 400lph hat, all lines, fuel rails, Bosh 105lb injectors. E85 is the fuel being used.

Then go for it! You're good to go! You'll probably make a bit more than 700 rwhp, but that wouldn't be such a bad thing.

Is your longblock stock? I didnt know 2.9's had 690 out of them with 100 unleaded and only 1 pulley change up? Also is that the standard inlet or crusher?

Thanks! to be more specific, a 140+ trap in the quarter is my goal for the car, so for a full weight coupe, im assuming I will need a decent bit more than that anyway..

We have a local guy, goes by VenomSVT I believe, that is running a similar set-up but with a solid axle and he's running 138 mph and the car is making mid 700's I believe. It's a 2.9L Crusher on E85.

Sry to kinda jump in and hack the thread. But what boost on the 2.9 is safe for 93 octane. I planned to run a 3.0 upper with a 4lb lower that would put me at 21 but figured my long tubes would drop me to 18.5-19psi is this ok?

Boost wont drop that much with only a header change.

Also most stock longblock guys are seeing about 18 psi stock lower and 3.5 upper... better crack out the URT 110 or MS109 with that pulley combo lol.

Go with a stock upper and 4lb lower on 93... even with LT's. your motor will like you for it.

+1

A stock lower with a 3.25" upper will net you about 21 psi with the standard inlet, add a couple more pounds for the crusher.

lol I would advise a big hellz no on this set up with 93! unless that is you want to rebuild the engine for the heck of it. On pump gas I would not go any smaller than a 3.50.

I have the complete fuel system to help with my numbers:

622 HP on 17 lbs of boost on 91 octane stock 2.9 Whipple upper pulley only.

686 HP on 21 lbs of boost on race base, smaller pulley on the 2.9 Whipple.

fyi, on my 3.25 upper I was putting out 20 psi, and as said earlier the 3.00 was 22 psi. For each smaller pulley its more than likely 2 lbs of boost.

Stock 3.5 upper on mine and stock lower and I see 20 lbs of boost. Haven't made it to the dyno yet just street tuned at this point. I imagine a 2.8 upper and 2 lb lower is gonna make a ton of boost and easily push you over 700 whp.
