A friend of mine flow tested the two intercoolers today. The 13 IC flowed about 25% more air than the 07-12 stock IC or to put it another way at the same CFM the 07-12 stock IC was 25% more restrictive than the 13’ IC was.

Troy, I wasn't aware anyone in the aftermarket made a IC core for our cars? I know there was one that was apparently a big flop! Are you thinking of the HE?

Any word on a part number or what this thing costs? It would be cool to get an IAT2 difference with this unit.

Don't buy a 13 then because that is the actual intercooler that comes in the 2013 GT500. It's a Ford part. Both of these are Ford parts.
(yes the IC is under the blower)

Troy...this is the heat ex-changer in the 13' . The aftermarket would be hard pressed to compete with this.

That '13 heat exchanger is a freakin' brontosaurus!! No chance of retrofitting that bad boy without some work! You sure that's not the engine radiator??

That heat exchanger is huge!!!! Saw it in the original video piece. Yes, this cooling system is much more advanced than 07-12. Ford put a fair amount of effort into redesigning the intercooler system and I'm looking forward to seeing how well the new system performs.

Only time will tell..................

The intercooler looks like it should be an easy upgrade if the price is right.

Welcome our Dark Overlord part suppliers with open arms. Any number of items on the S197 already comes with quite a few items from around the globe on it and much of that is Chinese.

Next time you're around Nardo cruisin' at ~202mph in your GT5, just remember where your wheels were forged...

Right off the bat, notice how the older unit used epoxy to locate the core and now Ford is specifying it be TIG welded (or at least it was in addition to)...

Unless it is indeed TIG'd atop the older unit and Ford just eliminated a step.

I wonder if Ford is having this piece final assembled and welded here in the US? Most MIG/TIG work I've seen from China has been atrocious. Then again, the welds on the older unit look to be far superior to the newer welds I see on the bottom of these units.

The cost is around $775 and yes straight up swap. It would indeed make a nice upgrade to any pre 13' as would that gigantic heat exchanger (air charge cooler, lol) and the 7gpm pump that Ford is using on the 13.

Tob...agree the Garrett welds looked better, apparent especially on the bottom side. Ford says the new 13 IC actually cost them more to have manufactured than the old one.

You can see the difference in the two cores. I'd upgrade for the restriction reduction, but $775.00? Not at this time.

They seem to be comparing the actual intercooler under the blower.

Yes, you got me. I was thinking "heat exchanger".

There was a company that tried to market an intercooler upgrade, but it tested to be no benefit at all.
