What intake+MAF combo are you guys running with your various setups?

Also if you are using the stock intake/MAF or comparable, how much boost are you running and how much power are you making?

I had an issue with a tuner (who will not be named at this time) who basically said my setup was "stupid," and that i am an "idiot" for having a JLT Ram Air intake utilizing a stock 90 mm MAF w/ Diablo mafia.

I am aware that it is a point restriction, however I believe that the severity of the said restriction is being quite a bit overstated...

My setup is as follows:

2.9 whipple (standard inlet of course)
JLT ram air intake as previously mentioned

4.75L (290ci) MMR 1000 motor, 8.5:1 comp
ported heads w/Ford GT cams
Ported lower intake

ARH 1 3/4" headers with 3-2.5" x-pipe
3.5" pulley (Reichard Racing 2.8" pulley is on hand but not on the car...yet)

2lb lower
Lethal return with 105 lb injectors for E85

This guy also said if I insist on using the intake, that I might as well "find another tuner". He steadfastly refuses to touch the car unless I buy the JLT High Boost intake with the required BA2600/BA3000, which is an additional 500 bucks...

Can you all chime in with your respective setups, and wiegh in on whether my use of the ram air is as "stupid" as was indicated? I do intend to go with the Crusher intake, but $3k with install and retune is not in the cards until November or December, and I am NOT waiting until then to have the car tuned to drive it.

Thanks all of you in advance for your respective inputs

I have the stock 90mm maf, with Mafia. My tuner has never said a peep about opening the intake up, I'm still on the stock TB too, so that is probably the biggest point of restriction long before the intake tubing.

That's is the most retarded statement I've heard of a tuner ! Yes u still have a bottle neck there but really a big maf housing won't benefit unless u have a big inlet ( elbow ) ... I have your same intake set up with a 3.4 WHIPPLE and got TUNED with no issues by KEN bjoness from lund racing ! I also have a small exhaust compared to you ( mac 1 5/8 , 2.5 x pipe ) 2.5 cat back and still laid down 740whp @24 psi on e85 ...

That is EXACTLY what I wanted to hear. I fail to see the point in paying 500 bucks the larger JLT + SCT BA maf then going to a crusher 4 months from now.

And oh the irony in you mentioning Lund racing... haha... :fm:

Find a different tuner

Not that easy... there's a couple of shops around here (Nori-bilt, JMS, Lethal Performance, Murillo motorsports) but the first 2 deal with import/tuner cars primarily from built FI 4 bangers, 2JZ swapped ANYTHINGS (lol) Evo's, etc, and the occasional V8..

Lethal =LSx cars... some mustangs but not particuarily fond of them tuning mustangs...

Murillo = an SBF? Sure! Mod motor tuning? I'll pass

Might take it to Henderson Performance in the next week if it can't get solved.. Just don't want to tow it 50 miles for tuning.. I guess I'll figure out what direction I'm going in once my shop talks to another tuner (Eric Brooks?? IIRC) in the morning...
