Hyundai and Kia never made 40 MPG cars!

I have never seen a car these companies made that I liked. I am glad that they have to give Americans some money back, so I guess stupidity can be rewarded after all. These cars are just now getting to quality and engineering levels seen by average cars in the mid 90s, but since they cost less, people are willing to throw good money away on them. Glad I went with the 12' Focus.

My aunt had 2 Elantras. A 2001 and a 2010. She loves the cars, and her daughter now drives the older one. Never had any problems with either.

Ignorance and blind brand loyalty is bliss. Theyre all very good and all came from very shit quality a mere decade ago. Some if not most of newer hyundai have some baller ass interiors. Way nicer feeling than the shit thats in your '12 focus that mimics the shit thats in my '10 fusion.

Plus not the first manufacturer to overestimate their mpg ratings. Though lets not forget over-estimating horsepower claims....who did that again?

About a year ago the wife and I picked up a 2011 KIA Optima and have put around 20,000 miles on it. So far It's been a pretty good car for us.

A couple small things needed warranty work like a TPMS sensor and the weather stripping on one of the sunroofs was getting pinched, but otherwise no major problems yet.

Fuel mileage is about spot on what the window sticker says, though if I hypermile the crap out of it I can get a couple MPG better. It's almost unbelievable how much having the A/C on while accelerating will drop the average over a few tanks.

When we drove it across country on I-10 it averaged almost 38 MPG the entire way. Granted the dash readout was just a little optimistic showing around 42MPG, lol.

I am not sure about them having the nicest interiors under 35k or at any price point. My wife rents cars just about every week for work travel. When she gets a Hyundai or kia, they are routinely the bottom of the barrel when compared to the other types she gets. Their ride is poor, they feel numb to drive, the seats are uncomfortable and they probably have the worst ergonomics of any car I've driven. Nothing feels like it is in the right place. On top of all that, the CEO gets busted embezzling millions of dollars and then gets to keep his job. So being a fanboi has nothing to do with my stance. Being an American does a little. About the Genesis, when I went to the drag strip a few weeks ago, there were 2 hopped up turbo ones that ran mid to high 13s on clean runs, but usually they sat there and spun 1 tire while the other one sat there. No limited slip on a "sports" car, ha. It should be standard on a performance oriented rear drive car.

About the Genesis, when I went to the drag strip a few weeks ago, there were 2 hopped up turbo ones that ran mid to high 13s on clean runs, but usually they sat there and spun 1 tire while the other one sat there. No limited slip on a "sports" car, ha. It should be standard on a performance oriented rear drive car.

They werent "hopped up" then. Only the 2.0T base models feature an open differential, all 2.0T Track/Rspec and 3.8L models have LSD. Still one-wheel peeling to a high 13 from a car thats rated 215hp stock that "hopped up" per what those guys probably had making 200whp (I see most guys with boltons/tune at the 250-260whp level) is pretty good for what the car is, which is NOT a quarter mile car by any purpose or means.

Does the base v6 mustang have a lsd rear? Nope, so why should the base GC offering be any different? The base 2.0t is about as "performance oriented" as a base v6 mustang. The 2.0t track/rspec/premium are the ones worth owning if you want a sporty feeling car.

Pretty good comparo. Not bad for Hyundai's first RWD "sports car" offering. Think the '13s fixed alot of those issues in that article (tire, TC system) though they ****ed up the front end by trying too hard to make it look aggressive.

My problem with them is resale people don't understand it but it's simple. "Hyundai is only $25k and the Honda is $30k" yes but 5 years from now the Hyundai is worth 10K and the Honda is worth 20k.

driving one into the ground is fine, but resale is a big issue like some of the above stated they do not last as long yet. I think the company is on its way up.

Really, this? Material feel aside, this is not what i would consider nice. It looks average for what is badged a limited (think top of the line) model. I understand looks are subjective, so in my opinion, the vents are bulky, the unsymmetrical center stack is visually jarring and there are way too many buttons on the steering wheel (although i admit a lot of cars have this issue). I could go on, but since it is a matter opinion, i guess you like what you like. Personally i an not a fan.

I know this is a 13' Fusion Titanium, but the design just looks better to me.

Two winters ago, I bought a brand new, fully loaded Kia Sportage AWD. It had every option possible (panoramic roof, heated/cooled seats, projectors, LED's, etc.) and was as expensive as a Sportage could be. Aside from its superior handling in the snow, the material quality of the vehicle wasn't very good (certainly not for the cost). Way too much plastic, and the leather that was used was thin and had very little padding underneath it. A few months after owning it, one projector went out and it ended up being a bad multifunction switch, which are apparently rather expensive on the new Kia. It was under warranty, but the repairs were over $2k.

I think that Hyundai, overall, produces higher quality cars than does Kia. Both have come a long way, and the styling of the Optima and Sportage are still excellent to me, but I don't find their interior quality/materials to be of proper standards.

Im sure if you compared a '12 fusion to that '12 Rios interior you would be singing a different story. The '13 fusion got a baller ass redesign for sure, afaik there isnt much changed yet on that generation Rio, though im sure if they have an update in the works expect that to change. Though my best friend got a new '11 Forte Koup and its interior was slightly better than my '10 Fusions was.

in all fairness a Rio is not in the same class as a Fusion or Focus thos cars cost way more, compare a rio to a fiesta, forte to focus and optima to a fusion

The Rio was redesigned in 2012
