I would interested to see the lightly modded ZL1 versus a 2013 GT500 with about $1500 into it, as well. Keep in mind that GT500Slayer's ZL1 is easily a low 11 second car with drag radials and maybe even a high ten second car on a cool day with mineshaft air. The LSA, in stock form, is slightly detuned with boost bled off (like the CTS-V). When I first took my CTS-V to the track, I was disappointed with a 12.8 at 111 MPH. Some adjustments of the boost bypass (set it properly), and it ran 12.2 at 116 MPH. Later that fall, before I modded it, I ran a best of 11.9 at 119 MPH. Following that, with a 2.55 pulley, intake and a tune, 11.2 @ 124. Upped the pulley to a 2.35, new injectors, headers and exhaust, and now high 10's. Just finished up the ported supercharger and a new tune so I am hoping for mid to mid-high 10's. Do not underestimate the ZL1 in the right hands with the right mods.

All well and good, so with all of his mods why is he so afraid to race my 5.0?

You ran a 10.9 on street tires at 134 MPH. I would be afraid of that, as well! There is a Mustang 5.0 with a TVS that I run into at the track with almost your identical setup. He runs 10.5s on drag radials. He obliterated the 750 RWHP 2010 Kenne Bell GT500 that was there (had the 2.8 mammoth). Anyone with sense would be a little hesitant to run you after slamming 5.0's. :)

Personally, I will run against anything, win or lose. I am always up for a race at the track against any street machine. That is always fun!

Lol yea true. I'd say he def has a case of open mouth insert foot.

Apparently this is his car getting drug by a '13 GT500.

I think I saw a note by him about that run against the GT500 stock versus stock and the ZL1 was not doing too bad. That is the auto for you, however. First gear is pretty low at 4.03 with a 3.23 rear (13 to 1). It is why the A6 in day to day driving uses second as first gear. The auto ZL1 gets out of the hole much better than the manually equipped versions.

the other thread said he stole the hit (left on 2 instead of 3rd honk) then gets blasted past on the big end. The owner of the GT500 had another race lined up with him after all his mods, and the GT500 was on drag tires. He wussed out of that race. It would've been a nastier beating with the 500 on some tires.

Maybe he did or maybe he didn't. The manually equipped cars can be a bear to get out of the hole. The three honk launch never works well. Need a tree or an arm drop. With drag radials, the GT500 would definitely walk him, stock to stock. Did the GT500 have any mods other than the drag radials for the re-match request? If so, I am not sure why he would not just pick up some DR's as well and take the challenge. Properly launched, the ZL1 would run right around 11 seconds.

Seems..

I'm your huckleberry. Live in St. Louis and ony have a few power adding mods. Now I do have suspension, and what not going on the car shortly and would to love to run your full bolt on, ported, pullied, soon to have a cam, ZL1. I have x-pipe, exhaust, intake, a little bit of spray, and a tune. My car is also a stick so you have an advantage there.

I get flamed every time i say this!!!!! Lol....funny i dont have a SC and have a 6.2L and it only took me a tune (zero bolt ons) to trap over 120....guess its because my car weights 3900lbs vs 4000lbs of the ZL1

I love the C63s. (For that matter, any Benz with the 6.2 in it). Your biggest problem is the same that we have on the Cobras- not enough rear tire to lay down the power.

I do not think that the ZL1 is underpowered. It is exactly what Chevy intended as a catch up effort. A solid (albeit overweight) low 12 second car with almost 600 horsepower to compete against the current GT500 (then, 2012). They went to the parts bin and pulled out the CTS-V go fast bits and shoved them in the Camaro. Seemed like a good plan to play leap frog until Ford pulled out the stops and did all of the modifications that an enthusiast would want for the 2012 GT500 on the as-built 2013 version. That cut off the ZL1 at the knees. If I were GM, I would change the pulley and boost it up to 14 PSI from the factory (maybe even do it as a TSB on the existing ones). That would at least get them back in the game or a bit closer to continue the historical rivalry. 2013 definitely goes to the GT500.
