I think I have probably read every thread in regards to x/h pipes. But keep getting contradicting answers. Trying to get every bit of hp I can, I've always been that way ever since I use to race dirt go-karts

I know when I had my 91 stang that X pipe made it raspy and H gave it the muscle sound.

Whats the difference form short and long x/h pipe setups?

Now here is the thing, I've read on few threads that the new coyote motor is opposite and x gives more power (even if it is 1-5) and gives it the muscle sound.

Also read cat-backs are not worth it but doesn't make sense if the pipe keeps changing diameter (headers to O/F h to stock piping and resonators to aftermarket axle backs) correct??

What I want out of my exhaust system is something louder than stock, when I crank the stang up I want people to be "wow that sounds nicee" drone on the highway is ok, little as possible but I understand it might have a drone. Just as long as I can still have a conversation and use bluetooth.

Any of you guys have a combo that fits the bill?

I know there are tons of threads in regards to parts I'm talking about but I couldn't find 100% answer I was looking for.

Thanks!

Thanks
Dustin

Svtp did a test between lethal o/r x and the o/r h and the difference was 2 hp i think....sid liked the sound of the h beetter so thats what he left on it and yeah the h has a little more rumble to it

And from all the reading ive done seems there isnt much of a power difference in catbacks/ axle backs
Just more of "sound tuning"

Right now i run an o/r x and gt500 axle back and its kind of been decided its one of the best setups

Does the x sound raspy at all?

What brand x do you have? Kept the stock piping from the x to the mufflers?

i have long tubes, hi flo cats, x pipe, jpc over axle pipes (straight thru, no resonators) and gt500 axle backs..
it sounds great on start up, settles into a nice burble at idle. cruising it sounds GREAT. not obnoxious, but gets heads turned and lots of thumbs ups from people. people will roll their windows down to tell me it sounds great
jump on the skinny pedal and it gets real loud. not raspy but def a little more high pitched if thats the right word, then my old 97 with o/r H. its hard to explain sounds a bit high strung but really good. you CANNOT go wrong with gt500 axle backs for the price they sound killer. Roush is really loud, borla makes a nice set up but its expensive..
in the end these cars dont sound like the older mustangs.. not at all to me anyway, but thats they way it is since the muffler is right before the tips and theres no tailpipes to go thru..
hope this helps.. id post vids but every video does no justice to it. it sounds so much better in person. in fact i wasnt sold on buying this set up based on the youtube videos i saw but figured screw it if i hate it ill sell it the ab and get something else. def sounds way better than anything on youtube ive watched

I hated how quiet my '13 was when I got it. I've replaced the stock mufflers with a muffler delete and with the rest of the exhausted being stock it sounds pretty decent.

My next round of upgrades will be a full exhaust with an o/r X. Ill probably end up swapping out the muffler delete with a gt500 setup if it becomes too loud.

I have almost the same setup but I got rid of the high flow cats and kept the stock mufflers on and its too loud. add in the AED tune popping and cracking and it gets annoying. but, its worth the speed. the gt500's sound good, so did the corsa sports but you need at least race cats to take the edge off. the stock gt muffler in my setup sounds like its shattered all of the internal baffles and is just a can full of broken debris. but, with no power adder I know its not enough to really screw up the muffler..

I agree that BYEOFCR's setup is the best sounding you can get. by keeping the cats it takes the edge off the rasp and allows use of the GT500 muffler with its perfect note. probably would sound better still with the stock over axle pipes with resonators on.

Thanks guys.

Is there any performance gain by going with full cat back vs O/F h/x pipe and axle back?

I want to delete the cats for performance aspect.

Is it true about the H being deeper and X being raspy or is it the other way around?

Guess I'll go with GT 500 mufflers.

Which x pipe show the most gains? Reason being I notice the angles of the "x" being different form brand vs brand.

I had read that H and X produce the opposite of what it normal does on 4.6 and old 5.0

If youre looking to squeeze every last drop of hp, your going to have to get headers in which point buying a mid pipe now would be a waste of money. Plus these cars come with pretty good manifolds from ford, its not like the old 4.6s where they made a huge difference.
Anyone of the header mfr's come with a nice h or x.
It really just comes down to sound, there is no way to feel 1-2hp difference between the two. I kept the high flows because i dont want to hassled and as stated above it kinda took the edge off the setup. It doesnt have the rasp my 97 had with a o/r x with magnapacks. Its deep and throaty im sure the h pipe is just a tad deeper.
Oh i have zero drone btw.
Mikeltd on here is the man to see about exhaust on this forum i think hes been thru every axleback there is. Twice.

Cats are coming off, that i already know just didnt want somethin that droned so bad it was hard to carry on a conversation. As well as don't want it to sound bad. so gt500 mufflers it is. I saw the dyno diff of the x and h was 3-4 hp I think. I'm all about squeezing every bit of power out, I've always been like that. Gf calls it OCD lol. I saw the dyno vs jlt steeda and ariad ( spelling) intake hp. With jlt making most tq but ariad making most hp. Ill get long tubes when I go to sc at the end of the year. What about the pipe between x and axle back? Does it need to be replaced to. Thanks for the info guys.

the over axle pipes are fine the jpc ones are 350 and have picked up some power but the also can scrape if your lowered....

i was running a lethal x and gt500s with my blower setup THE ONLY reason im going to longtubes is im swapping motor and everything is out of the wayother wise they are not worth the 5-10hp at the very most for the $800+ the amount or pain in the ass time it takes to install them

but you said you like to get all the power you can ...its all in what your willing to spend

I think I'm gonna reget getting the SLP AB's once I go to a Lethal X (Want that 20 hp)..I'm sure it will too loud. The SLP's sound great on stock exhaust though. :nonono:

Plus long tubes sound better than simply an O/R x or h pipe IMO

I like to get power I can but with certain expense/labor. I know Long tubes are a pain, if I swap out K member (IF) I'll get longtubes and do it while the motor is hanging on the cherry picker.

Are the JPC the only one that will scrap? I plan to lower a inch max.

Does lethal have the most hp gain?

I'm ruuning factory cats, Bassani x-pipe, JCP ota pipes, and Magnaflow axle backs.

Nice tone at idle, aggressive at when cruising, and attention getter when floored.
I do not have the drone nor has it ever scraped.

I am running the full length Borla S-Type catback. I absolutely love the sound! It is what I would consider as pretty darn loud when you get on it but it is also very quiet when idling and or cruising in 6th. Zero drone. The only thing I'd like to change is more sound at idle. I still have cats but the with the catback it comes with a shorty x-pipe. If I remember correctly it is 2.75" diameter piping all the way from the cats basically back to the mufflers, 4.5" tips.

For power I am pretty sure I picked up a good amount from the exhaust setup too. I first dynoed my car bone stock and it put down 382/360. After Airaid CAI (I'm sure my gains were next to nothing from this) and the catback I put down 27 more ft/lbs! It was on different dynos but I know the dynos are setup almost identical as these two shops I had the dyno done at are competitors. The 2nd dyno was actually even on a warmer day too.

I think in the long hall I will be going with some 1 and 7/8" long tubes to finish it off as it will bolt right up to my existing x-pipe.
