My buddy switched out his bone stock SRA in his GT for an IRS with the whole FTBR kit installed. His car now has wheelhop, before with the stock SRA it didn't.

For those people who say SRA removes wheelhop I have a question for you.

I had a Supercharged 1992 GT with approx 350HP and you know they came with SRA from the factory and it wheelhopped like crazy. The only way I fixed it was to build up the stock SRA.

Now to only prove SRA will eliminate wheelhop in a stock IRS car is to swap a stock SRA with no upgrades to it, I mean bone stock SRA with stock bushings and control arms.... everything stock!

Has anyone done this?

Really? How? I'm making 900whp with simple mm bushings and mines smooth as silk even with John force burnouts.

I've ridden in stockish gt's that wheel hopped but they had 100k miles and up on them.

Is it a really dry climate where you're at? Maybe the rubber and poly bushings dry out a lot more often in your area. I'm in the Rocky Mountains but even the cold winters/hot summers temp variance doesn't do much to my bushings...

Yup I was surprised too but his car is a vert so I'm sure that adds to it. His SRA is the one I built for my car. The stock control arms were in great shape but I bought MM lowers and steeda uppers

On verts flsc's, and coil overs (at least springs) go a long way, a diff brace, cover, and plate seal the deal assuming ftbr's kit is already on it.

He hasn't gotten back to me yet but I seen on some of his older post on here that he does have coilovers and subframe connectors. I know he just switched to R888 tires but im not sure if that helped or not.

A hard tire will often hop and skid on almost any setup, I've seen stock gt500's hop on goodyears...

Back in 2009 when I had Falken azentas(?) rt-615's, it spun till 30~ and chirped on wotshifts all while seeming to hop slightly but more so just no traction/slightly catch/break loose again. I had them on an na 5.4 combo with 375whp... No trutrac though and 4.10 gears with 400wtq from 1900-4000k rpms. I had previously run as high as 620whp on nt555r's without any hop/skidding but tons of spin. Maybe the tread design has a lot to do with it as well as compound.

It wouldn't "hop" all that often with the 615's and I'd even bet there is a better term than wheel hop to explain what it was doing, maybe tire distortion/skidding? It's like the tires couldn't hook from a dig with a hard launch but would unwind the wheel spin into a light bobbing/"er er er"(chirping?) that stepped the rpms down from say 4k to 3k between about 15-25mph. I've experienced it in small/hard tire foxbody's and z28's as well though.

It was a lot like what a stock suspension/stockish passenger tire 87-93 5.0 mustang with say mild heads, intake manifold, exhaust and cam does on stock gearing, that unwinding chirp/er er slight bobbing kinda thing.

It never felt like I was going to shear or snap a shaft though. I have done that with 450whp, bfg ta dr's dropped to 18psi, and hard launches with clutch drops... We all learn, that was a good 6-10 months after buying the car and I had been stupid enough to ride light wheel hop occasionally on burnouts/launches atleast 25 times before it finally let go. All that snapped was the hub and it was still drivable but wobbly. The factory clutch let go before the hub, and I was clutch dropping a spec stage 3+ when it popped the hub.

I read up on how to setup an IRS, launch theory, and people's experiences then and there, and went "built IRS" back in 06 with MM's upgrades grip box, full mm coilovers, lvl5's and a brace. Had no problems even after adding an accufab tbody, and zex-150 shot. I did blow up a lvl 5 s1 hub but bitched and bitched until they heavily discounted a lvl5 s2 set. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if stock shafts have a stronger build quality/reliability. Same way oem engine blocks are stronger than the sum of there parts would suggest because of exacted torquing/set up, I think the oem axle's might be as well.

IRS 1.51 60' launching the Eaton at only 3k rpm, has a 1.4x in it with more seat time. I've only made 10 passes in it. Being it's a primarily a street car, that's good for me. I'll never give up the exhaust plumbing look from the back either. IMO a trademark of the beast.

I did some research on the diffuser and it looks like "cscobra03" might have fabbed it for tractionless or had it on a car he sold? (Guessing. The thread I found was by cscobra03. Different screen name than tractionless). Looks awesome irregardless of how it came to be on tractionless' car. I'm going to follow cscobra03's detailed DIY and try to fab one as well. It's made of aluminum and attaches to the straps for the fuel tanks plastic cover. I'll take race broncos advice from the thread and channel the angles at 6-9* while setting them slightly lower and possibly doing 5 instead of 4 fins.

You'll have to quote this post, then copy that URL, exit tapatalk mobile, then paste the URL into an Internet browser because tapatalk mobile doesn't open it. :-/

Anyone interested in one, pm me and I'll look into making a group price/figure out cost and time for a fair individual price, maybe $300each for 5, $400 individual

If you fab one up and it looks good, Id be interested. Try posting something in Term Talk and see who all would be interested... doesn't seem like this area gets a lot of traffic.

I'll keep you posted, I did some minor measuring today and it looks pretty simple. Only issue with doing the jig off my car would be I have a custom fuel tank/system that's pretty close to stock size but obviously I couldn't know for sure unless I measure some other cars.

I'm going to compare my measurements to a few friends 03/4 cobra's and see what the going average is. If its a pretty straight forward average, then I might drop a few messages in term talk/show shine/etc.

I might try a setup like race bronco was talking about that's functional but I'll have to see how it looks, if its a red headed stepchild of a thing... Well lets just say I'll focus on aesthetics and anythings better than nothing haha.

I have never been a fan of how the gas tank/tank cover look. This looks clean and adds a touch of originality to the car. Im on the fence if its "rice" or not though.
