Let me just say this has all came from a bad experience with my previous Mustang.

I owned a terminator from July of 2011 to March of 2012 and it was the best car i've ever owned and never had a single problem. I ended up buying a Roush Mustang in June of 2012 with a built motor and single turbo, and the car was a problem every other day. I literally spent about 2.5k in repairs for things that just kept going wrong, one after another.

Starter goes bad, Header gaskets need to be replaced, coil pack shorting out every other day forced me to buy a new ECU, just nothing but problems.

I sold the Roush and am happy its gone and I have been wanting another terminator, but a step above an Eaton.

I would love to drive one this time with a Posi ported Eaton but i've always had that itch for a KB or whipple. The problem is, as you can see, im scared outta my mind when parts are thrown on that arent from the factory.

My sale would 99% sure be from the marketplace on here as it is where I bought and sold my 03, and i'm just wondering for those who drive KB/whipple cobras.. do you have problems? Have you bought one off here and had everything go wrong?

I am really really leaning towards buying a KB 03-04 from the terminator section but still very very cautious because I dont want to spend thousands again on repairs. I KNOW I am being very skeptical and paranoid but as a fellow cobra owner I know most of you understand we like to keep our cars pristine and our wallets full.

I had the same exact fears. Didnt wanna buy a cobra somebody else beat on, botched the install on etc. I chose to go the stock super low mileage route. Couldn't be happier. Understandable though if your just looking for a fast pre built terminator. I was looking for a project.

understand your fear but... a built motor roush with a turbo is far from "factory" compared to a twin screw terminator

it's a very basic and common aftermarket install and you're still using the stock motor which obviously performs well

not everyone with twin screws beat on their cars .. a lot of people with 600+rwhp don't even go to the track

just find an owner with a basic kb setup that has tasteful mods and talk with him a lot about how he has treated the car

KB dd with no big issues other than a blown head gasket and and that was my fault.

I dont buy turbo converted cars. I have seen turbo terminator owners selling them because sometimes turbos can be a bitch. But when done right, nothing can hold a dick to them...

I agree. When done right, a turbo car is hell on wheels. Back to the op original post, I also understand your fear. Which is one of the reasons I bought my Lightning and my wife's Cobra with the stock Eaton on them. The other reasons is so I know exactly what is in them and we love to tinker with them together. But knowing what I know now about the Cobra's, I would buy a KB or Whipple powered one in the 550hp range. These cars can get there with the said power adders with as little as 14-15 psi and some fuel mods without breaking a sweat. The Lightning on the other hand, I would still buy one with a stock pullied Eaton on it simply because of the weak rods.

Bottom line is bone stock cars can be just as abused as fully built auto turbo cars. These cars are very rarely babied no matter what the owners tell you. Buying a stock or lightly modded car doesnt guarantee you anything.

I bought my car turbo/d, built motor etc....and after 2500 miles im int he middle of an engine build. Yes im irritated as hell but its part of the game with performance cars making decent power.

That statement is false. I daily drive mine, and maybe once a month if that get over 4k rpm. In fact ive owned the car since december and have not even redlined the car yet.

Personally KB is garbage and many of them need costly rebuilds after 10k. Twin screws have became such a normal that its almost expected. If they didnt run more than 17psi i dont see the problem

it's the point of having it, the guys that beat the shit out of their cobras give the ones who appreciate them bad reputations.
+ I enjoy tinkering and making it sound good/tweeking that or adding reinforcement their. ECT. there's many other things to do than beat the shit out of it

SO what is the point to add a whipple? I got a 750 Whp car "never raced" shit like this makes me laugh what a waste of money.

This is a valid opinion, but very juvenile. I have a Whipple running at 18psi and have never tracked it, or seriously street raced it. My car is a complete garage queen and I love having the power even if I choose not to beat the daylights out of it. The way I look at it my car will still be badass LONG after most of them are clapped out, beat to death junkers. Each to his own though...

if no one beat the crap out of their cars, there wouldnt be the following/reputation you see with terminator.....whats the purpose of these hp mods if your not going to use it...otherwise chrome it and have car show queen....to each their own:beer:

Having it for what to make people think you're cool?

You guys are worried about a clutch? U shouldn't even buy a car that can be modded, Better hope the TOB is New or they don't have aftermarket breaks those rotors may warp and who wants to buy new breaks.

My car gets driven to red line and tires spinning all the time. And with Ported eaton trapping 132 mph I'm sure the motor is in great shape.

If I had a clutch that lasted 30K I would faint. its a wear Item. A good single disk costs $400 say 6 to get FW cut and a afternoons work to throw a new one in. IF thats what your worried about go buy a hybrid because the modded car world is not for you guys.

OP if you look at a modded car ask to be get a compression check done. Seller may even split cost with you because if the results are good it would be a good selling point. If it looks good have the tune confirmed and call it a day.

You could buy a bone stock car and it spin a bearing on the way home.
