Best Way to Run an E85 Tune and 93 Tune?

What is the best way to run these two tunes? Our city's ony pump is almost 30mins away so best I can do is fill up my tank some jugs then run 93 when I can't get over there. I'm worried that after a couple full tanks of 93, no matter how empty I try to get the volume down, there will still be 93 mixed with the e85.

My tuner suggested disconnecting the return line from the regulator and installing another 6an line to a gas can, start the car and let it all pump out. When the car stalls, hook the first line back up and pour in e85

I've installed a fitting on my fuel rails with a quick disconnect as suggested from another member here. A fuel line hooks up to that and I can key on (return system) to run the pumps and drain the tank. I would only do this if I got caught somewhere with no E85 available.
You might want to invest in a 55 gallon drum if you have access to a truck so you can have more E85 at home.

Can you point me to where I can find this info? I have sct with room for three tunes so the pump tune would be safe as well, but I of course would love to run E85 only but no truck as of yet so a drum isn't really doable atm.

If you DD your car and dont have any E85 stations around it wil make running it all the time difficult. I would run the on the 93 tune and when you are going to the track, drain and switch tune. I am picking up a 55gl drum to fill and store in my shop to fill the car with but again I dont dd my car. My nearest station is 1/2 hr away but not in my normal travel path.

If you're going to run e85 and keep 93 as a backup just back the tune down for fuel feed. cut it by 30% and you should be able to make it to another pump. stay out of the boost. this is going on what i've read and been told and i believe is what you're asking.

I have sct which has room for 3 tunes. I will be mostly running 93 though I'd like to run e85 as much as possible, theres only 1 pump in the area 30 mins away though. Therefore what I'm worried about is that after running my 93 tank dry as possible and filling up with e85, will the mixture cause the ethanol to be too low if the gauge is right at E and I fill the tank? If it's only 3-5% off its probably not a big deal as the tune will be conservative anyways, but if its no good, then I'll have to cycle through the 93 using the return line until the tank is 100% empty and refill with e85... but then I obviously can't do this at the pump.

its only my opinion but i would not run my fuel pumps dry while trying to pump all of the 93 octane or e-85 out of the lines. i can tell you that the only cooling and lubrication the pumps get is from the fuel running through them and i wouldnt test their integrity by running them dry  , i would consider a drain plug in my gas tank

That's a pretty good idea, I'll see what the shop says about that.

No need to run the tanks that low anyway. E85 mixes perfectly with gasoline and the octane does not really change until you reach around E50 or so. I would just try to get down to around between 1/4 and 1/8 tank and refill and swap tunes. Should run perfect.

There is no need for a drain.

so if there is about 2-3 gallons of pump gas in my tank and i fill up with e85 i will have no problems running my car at 25 degrees timing at wot with that pump gas mixed in ??? just wondering because i understand they mix perfectly since flex fuel vehicles can just put e85 in and go but with the agressive tuning we do with e85 wont the 2-3 gallons of say 91 octane affect the flash point or burn rate of the tank of fuel ? surely that would affect the octane rating right ? btw im only asking cause i dont know im not being rude because i would love to get a pump gas tune and not have to worry about draining my tank only run it down to an 1/8 of a tank or so

Even if you had 3 gallons of regular 91 mixed in, you would still be around E71. This may run a tad richer than your E85 tune, but will still run just fine and have no problems with detonation. Even with your 25* timing.

I did this this weekend. I disconnected from right in front of the rear passanger tire on the feed side. Put a connection on it so I could tap into the fuel line and drain it into a container. Pulled the fuse on two of the three pumps. Got the 93 octane down to around 2 gallons. I poured 2 gallons of E85 in. Turned key on and drained it a good bit into a container. Measured it and it was ~E73. Then poured two more gallons of E85 in ran it down and tested it ~E88. Then poured 6 gallons in and loaded my E85 tune put the two fuses back in. Ran like a champ. Took less than 10 mins.

That's good to hear. I was worried about this once I get my whipple tuned on E85

I'm know I"'m late to the party but the question of switching between fuels and what it does to octane came to me today when i switched before the dyno. I found a calculator that will tell you what your octane is with percentages of both fuels like 1 gal of 93 and 14 of e85 is like 104 octane or if you switch from 1 gal e85 and 14 93 you get 94 octane. I hope this helps anyone else.

My bad, just trying to help.

Sent from my RAZR using Tapatalk.
I understand. I do thank you for helping, but it's just funny when there is the information in the "Sticky's" that tell you this.

Sorry for coming off a little harsh.

Welcome to SVTP
