I honestly would love to have a twin turbo 5.0 at some point.

According to you, a heavily modded 5.0 can "hang with a stock, AGAIN, STOCK GT500".

No point in getting a heavily modded, lighter, newer, but slower car!! :shrug:

i have to agree with CodyK7. Not a fan of the GT500. I think they are underperformers. That said i smash 5.0's on a regular (03 Cobra pullied,tune.intake) so its hard for me to grasp 5 car lengths unless he was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed. GT500's are not that slow.

I disagree. All these threads lately really want to make me run into a 5.0. I'm going to have to hit up some local boards and find one to run. I guess if he was bone stock it could be close but it seems crazy to me to think 5 car lengths is even possible.

I have to agree with your comment. Its really hard to believe 5 Car lengths.... Wow thats a lot. GT500's are not that slow. With a few bolt ons you can unleash hell.

I disagree the first gen GT500s were lucky to trap over 112 mph stock. A bolt on 5.0 is a solid 115 mph car with a good driver. So a Shelby getting pulled by car lengths is legit to me.

Agreed. My stock motor'ed GT500 is quick, but not OMG time warp fast by any means, but I bought the car because with a few boltons it picks up 120hp and suddenly becomes much more formidable.

Modded 5.0 vs stock 07-09 GT500.....yes I can see the 5.0 pulling (NOT BUS LENGTHS) the GT500 IF THEY STARTED SIDE BY SIDE AT THE SAME TIME.

Big question though.....was the GT500 stock? No clue.

Huge problem I can't seem to get over.... OP stopped the GT500's pull and put 4 lengths on it. You do realize to do this you have to have a decent amount more power than the other car to do this? So your telling me the 5.0 is making at least 100 more hp?

I love the 5.0's and everything they are, but I just don't see this happening.

maybe just to have a challenge since its so cheap and easy to make big power in a gt500. ;)

I have only ran (1) 5.0 since I had my car. Now I don't know his mods so I guess he didn't have the boss intake on it. It was louder than my car. Had the gills on the hood so I'm guessing 12 or 13. I don't follow the 5.0s year by year.

He pulled up beside me on the highway down shifting and carrying on. Quick Look around and we slow to 45 and he honks it off. I'm in second and let him hit then roll quickly into the throttle. Quick pull by and snatched 3rd at 6200. Shift 4th at 5500 getting out of it since I'm about 6 cars in front and just walking off.

I can't see why the TQ of the Shelby isn't making up for the weight difference down low. I understand the HP being close peak numbers then weight plays a huge difference. There is no way possible the 5.0 can produce the TQ down low that will stop a car making over 400 ftlbs of TQ before 3K. Guess I just lucked up and found a newbie that hadn't mastered his 5.0 yet

You must not have grown up in the late 80's/early 90's when we were stuck with 225hp in our top pony cars...and yet we still loved them...

I'm thrilled that I could walk into a Ford dealer and purchase a new car straight from the showroom that puts 600whp to the ground...

Add a 13-6 kit and a few bits, run 200mph in the standing mile... far from under-performing in my mind

We sure are spoiled in this new performance era...

"Was he racing"...yes. Just because you have more hp in a car does mean you'll win. I can out drive 95% of drivers. My car in DA of 5014 ft traps 113mph, at sea level that is about 118mph-120mph. Stock 5.0 at my track trap about 107mph. Yes my car is a slow pile in the shadow of the the might 2007-2009 GT500.
