excellent post. I wish I had this post for reference when I first was learning how to do this. It would have saved me hours of reading the inter webs and buying a bunch of products that were not that great. On a side note, I have been getting a new microfiber towel every month in the detail box from http://www.theragcompany.com and they have all been quality towels.

I have a few towels from them too - a lot of detailers swear by them!

Guys, order a few "SIlver Surfer" mf's from Pakshak. I have never used a towel that takes off wax/sealant as smoothly and effortlessly as this one. I wonder what theragcompany has that may be similar?

Looks like I've found a new way to feed my OCD! Thinking of getting the kit you started with. Lots of good info here!

Excellent write up sir

after talking to a few local people here I have determined my issue is 100% the crap microfiber towels i have been using from autozone / walmart. I will be following your advice for next season now that I need to do a full correction on the car to get it to the point I need it.

Do forget that small detail of the right counter balance weight on the porter cable. to run a 6,7 inch pad, that will need changing.
