Just had my rear window tinted and my tint guy would not tint the dot matrix, said he would but, I'd be back in a month so he could trim it off, cause it just doesn't work.
Anybody, know the best solution? I've read where some people use vinyl inside, paint inside, sand etc.. I just want it done right. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and I'm not going to pay for some to do it half way. I'd like some help on the best way for it to look 100%, not some crap job.

This may be weird, but when i had mine done the guy used clear elmers glue between the dots and the tint, says he has done it like that for a long time. I kinda want one of the mmd roof spoilers so that would cover it anyway

Both times that I have had mine tinted, the guy put a black piece of vinyl over the dots. The only way to do it and look good.

Sanding them down can help but it's labor intensive and the vinyl is a much easier solution to the issue. Be sure to overlap the vinyl slightly onto the tint so if you cruise with the windows down each time you drive like I do it won't eventually start to peel your tint back from the wind.

Mine was tinted over the first time and it held up for over 10 years just fine. I took it all off this year and had darker tint put on, they used black vinyl over the top part.

Just had my windows done this summer.
Vinyl tape is made specifically for that dot matrix pattern.
Regular window tint will not adhear fully and air will be trapped in.
Mine looks no different from the outside and I do not notice it from the inside.
That and the mirror is only so tall, you can't see the whole rear window from top to bottom in it either.

I have the same problem OP. I specifically told my tinter not to tint the DOT matrix because they all peel off and get bubbley, then look like crap. I bought a piece of black 3M vinyl that I was going to put on the inside, but when I tried a piece on the glass, it looked grey from the outside. I've thought about trying a limo strip and using clear glue. If that doesn't work I may want to just spray paint it lol.

did you spray it? If so do you remember what type and brand of paint you used? I was thinking of painting mine as well

Sorry for the delay.

No problem, I appreciated you taking the time to do that for us. Unfortunately that is what I'm trying to avoid lol. Maybe I'll sand and use clear glue.. see what happens.

No offense, I think this is exactly what everyone is trying to avoid.

Bummer. Stupid dot matrix lol
