hi
I bought a used 2013 mustang Gt, I installed x pipe off road then I data log ,was there active knock +3.25. tuner in my area said maybe need to tune so he did and could not increase timing because the knock

I return the stock h pipe so now the car is stock, yesterday I data log and the knock increase (+4.50) fule is ok and exhaust is not touching, I’m thinking that maybe the old owner tuned it and forgot to return to stock (oem tune) when sold it and the car now has a custom tune as OEM .

please i need your support what do u think

Thanks.

Is the knock your seeing happening at wide open throttle or does it post brief KR numbers on the bottom like low end acceleration. Mine will post up a bunch of KR on the bottom and I thinks it's called burst knock. From what I understand it's when the timing advances to quickly and the computer reacts out of safety.

i will do that, what does false knock means? And when its happens?

False knock is noise that is from the exhaust rattling or something else that the car picks up and reads as knock, not the engine pinging.

So what i have understood is false knock = exhaust issue. Am i right?

thanks for the help

It could be exhaust or anything else rattling/knocking around on the car. If you put race gas in and it is still knocking, it is most likely false knock.

I didn't know a KAM reset helps with knock activity. Can any one else shed a little light on this? Also, data logging in cold temperatures (say in the evening) helps too.

I just found out recently that resetting the KAM on my car COMPLETELY changed the fueling. Car ran fine when tune was first loaded and logged. I log regularly, at least once a week. After about a month or two the car started to go leaner and leaner. Got to the point where it was dangerous. I did a KAM reset and the fueling went back to where it was supposed to be. I wouldn't doubt that other aspects (knock tables) changed with the KAM reset as well.

Same happened to me. I've been logging for AED and it appeared like I had the worst gas in the United States. I just did a KAM reset and put a few miles on it and did a few WOT pulls and then logged again and everything looks 1000X better.

Im having a similar occurrence. I was noticing some knock at wot. Reloaded my tune and there is no knock now. I also notice my timing isn't going past 14.5 degrees after the reflash. Before the reflash I was seeing upwards of 17 degrees. Fuel looks similar. And the car feels like an absolute beast after the reflash compared to before.

Yeah I have always wondered about the adaptive learning that these cars have. Hopefully Shaun @ AED will share some insight, I have heard of people wiring their cars with a KAM reset switch or relay (mostly automatics).

I wonder if it's bad for the engine to reset the KAM every time the car is started? I know people do it to pep up the shifting but it also resets fueling and timing too.

After finding out what I did with my car I am making it a habit to do a KAM reset every week or two. My car was learning some bad habits...

I guess I will pull the fuse next time I notice the KR and see if that straightens it out. Its just a shame we have to do this to keep our ecm from wacking out. Seems like it could easily be fixed with tuning. I guess tuners don't notice it because they are always working with a freshly loaded tune without much learning.
