Don't know if it will be a 50th anniversary "R" or a 2016 but either way - it'll be friggin' awesome!!

This will also keep the "R" series alive. I'm real happy about that.:):):)

This is my opinion, as someone who owns a R and also has a strong working knowledge of vintage Shelby's (as I'm sure many on here do as well): The upcoming GT350R is meant to replicate/pay homage to the '65 model Shelby GT350, not be a continuation of the 93/95/00 R program. It should be an amazing car, no doubt, but I don't think anyone is going to recognize it as part of the "R" series.

I don't care if it a part of the R series, It has the will and finally the ability to be apart of the R series, I was all over a Laguna Seca Boss until I got to drive one on the track, I no longer needed one, Just a Boss with allot of work left to add. If it really shows up with 11" wheels, tires that stick and a Real transmission, I am in line. Already called my dealer and told him when and if he hears of the GT350R I am all over it. He of course stated he has 2 guys in line for the GT350, I replied I don't want one of those, The R.

Would it not look good here.

Kinda Sounds like an "R" to me.

"The GT350R was stripped of its back seats, stereo, air conditioning, carpets, trunk floorboard, and backup camera. Lightweight racing features such as carbon fiber wheels were added. In all, the Shelby went on a 130-lbs diet."

And it may very well end up being considered an R- time will tell. I'm certainly on board with anything that even sparks the comparison.

Just as an FYI, the OP owns both (Ok, maybe his wife owns the 95 "R" but he got the GT :D ),

quite active, and very knowledgeable on both accounts :pepper:

Interesting. Sounds similar to a 93R. Stock drivetrain with some lightening and other probably minor changes. Get ready for some serious ADMs. I am very curious to see where the GT350 and R variant come in on sticker price. I just can't see these cars coming in as low as speculated. Not when a loaded GT is getting close to $50K.

Definitely interested to see pricing. I bet the R is somewhere in the mid to upper $80's and that's before ADM.

After seeing one in person, I definitely want one... But I may wait until someone buys the car and looses their ass first if I can't find one at invoice.

The owner of Mountaineer Automotive here in Beckley, WV has said that he will try his best to get one. May go in his personal collection. If/When it does arrive, I'll take plenty of pictures to share on here.

Ive now seen this car 3 times in the last week. I dont like the white that much, the "liquid blue" looks fantastic, but will not be a production color. I totally consider this to be an "R" car. With the killing of the SVT brand in favor of Ford Performance, this is it. The car is de contented like our cars, and its in the spirit of racing. Im sure there will be full race versions that will actually go racing (like the 302S). I can tell you that this car sounds incredible!!!!!! As for pricing, I would not be at all surprised if this car was competitively priced with the Z28. But who knows. Will I get one? I would already be working to get one, if there wasn't a show stopping other liquid blue car announced.....

I don't see how it's not an 'R'. I mean the base GT350 will be the "street car" with the R being the low volume version hardcore version. Similar to the Boss 302 vs Boss 302 Laguna Seca of the previous generation but with an even larger performance gap back to the basic 2015 GT.

only if it is a one year low volume, 200-300 cars, will I consider it part of the R series. that's just me.
