I picked up a second Mustang. Apparently I didn't learn from the first lol. It is a 1999 GT all stock.

The steering feels heavy when driving. Almost as if the power steering pump is not working. Also after making a turn the steering wheel does not want to return to center like it should. I have to help it along to get it back straight. I opened to pump lid with the motor running and I can see the fluid flowing.

Bad Rack I am guessing? Just want to make sure before spending the money.

Also I get a creaking sound when turning the wheel back and forth. I read that may be from the rack bushings. I didn't find much real info after searching about the rack itself.

Sounds like you are on the right path.
I would check to see if your pressure line is not leaking, first. If it looks dry, your probably going to have to replace the pump.
** If you get a chance, put the front end up on jackstands/ lift and turn the wheel to see if you hear the same sounds. Alot of times, those moans and groans are balljoints, tie rod ends, bushings, that are shot and need replaced.

Good luck OP!

No leaks on the power steering system. Had to replace the oil filter adapter gasket as soon as I got home.

So you think it's the pump and not the rack?

I need to find out for sure which to replace. At least I hope to find out before having to replace everything.

I ordered a new rack. Will update next week after I get it installed. I would think if the pump was bad I would also notice it in the hydroboost.
