Question about transferring pistol from out of state - from GA to NC

As the title states, I'm looking for info regarding the legality/process of acquiring an XD9 from someone in Georgia - I'm in North Carolina. Can each of us just drive halfway, meet in SC and do some kind of bill of sale?

I've seen a lot of differing information in my research online, so I'd prefer if only LEOs respond with facts, rather than receiving people's opinions.

In state commerce depends on state and local laws. CA may be the only state I know of that requires background checks and a wait period for private party transfers.

Once it crosses the border Federal laws come into play and even then the laws are kind of murky with handguns vs long guns. technically handguns can only be transferred in the state in which you reside while you can buy a long gun in any state. I say technically because face to face private sales are very hard to regulate. You can peruse pistols at a gun shop while on vacation in another state but if you find something you want you'll have to put down the money for the gun and then get it shipped to an FFL near you.

OP, you'll need to either find an FFL that will accept a gun sent by an individual or ask your FFL to send their info to his FFL. If the seller shipping it is the option you decide to go with they'll need to get smart on the firearms shipping policies of UPS and FedEx. Private persons are not allowed to ship guns for commerce via the postal service. USPS is kinda goofy in their shipping policies because you can ship a gun registered mail but you can only ship it to yourself.

Save yourself the time and gas and do the transfer the right way.
