I noticed that Ford states on their web site that the 2016 ST was rated at 252hp using 93 octane. I was reading the Edmunds web site they state: premium fuel (recommended) Does Ford say ONLY 93? Are you given the choice to run 89 octane? Obviously it wouldn't hit the 252hp mark without 93, but I would think it would be better than the 160hp @ 6500 rpm n/a 2.0L motor.

Anyway, if there are ST owners here feel free to come on up to the Terminator section. Your always welcome there, if you have ANY questions about the 03-04 Cobra you'll get plenty of friendly advice.

Yeah, I finally got off my a$$ and did some research over the weekend. I found a web site, FocusST.org and found a thread about the use of 87-89 or 91-93 octane. Like most forums you'll get all sorts of opinions, but it cleared up most of my concerns.
I drove a new n/a 2.0L 5-speed hatch and I thought that was a slow dog. Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks this. Came across a few consumer reviews with the same thoughts. My 10 year old n/a 2.0L 5-speed Focus gets up and goes better than a new one. I'm not really looking for a car to mod and race. If that were the case I'd wait for that RS, sounds like that's going to be one hell of a Focus.
People will probably rake me across the coals, but I plan on running 89 octane that's the lowest around here. Ford says that I can do it, so we'll give it a try. This will be my daily driver, not really worried about getting all the HP out of it I can. Whatever the HP number it'll have to be better than that dog of a n/a 2.0L motor.
So, it looks like I'll be going to the dealer in the morning and ordering a base model Kona blue 2016 ST. Friday the salesman told me a base ST would be $23,000 out the door. I haven't done any haggling yet, let's see if I can lower that. Unfortunately I'll have to buy all season tires for it because it comes with summer tires only. Guess I'll be checking the internet for some tires while I wait for the car.
I tend to keep my daily drivers for awhile. I'm sure I'll rack up well over 100,000 miles, let's just hope I can get some longevity out of that little turbo motor. 10 years and well over 100k with my present Focus that I bought new and the only repair motor wise is an alternator. Oh, and still on the factory clutch.

Of course they hit you with admin. fees (whatever the hell that is..:dw I think it's for running the copy machine a couple of times and using their computers and toilet paper for the bathroom... so, they got their 200 back.
I'm guessing it'll be late Nov. to mid Dec. when she comes in.
Ford wants $30 bucks for the all season tire option, so I went for it. Can't go through the winter without them. There's no way I'd be able to buy four all season tires on my own for $30 bucks, but then again shouldn't the car come with all season tires?
I'll snap a few pics when she comes in and post them.

Nope, going into this blind, but 10 years ago when I bought my last Focus I didn't bother with a test drive either. I'm mean let's be realistic, it was a compact car with a 4cly. and manual transmission. If you can't figure out what the driving experience is roughly going to be like then you don't have much experience with automobiles. Plus, it was to be used for a going back and forth to work car, 27 miles one way (which I don't do any more) Out of the Ford line up it was the only logical choice.
When I picked the car up back in Dec. of 05 I was actually surprised on how much "get up and go" the little bastard had. Besides, I'm old fashion and brand blind. I buy Fords! I know most younger people don't understand this, but that's the way it is.
Now, I'm not in the least bit comparing the 10 year old Focus to this new ST. I know it'll be like night and day. I would expect it to be different after 10 years and being a turbo compared to n/a motor that had 136hp, but was only moving 2,6xxlbs.
I've been driving the Cobra for awhile now (about 11 years) so it's not like I've never been behind a wheel of a car that can't "get up and go" I do understand that the ST still has a case of torque steer. Better than it once was, but still there. I don't plan on any spirited road racing anyway. Road racing isn't my thing, drag racing is, but I'm not taking her down the strip. Don't care what kind of times I get out of my daily driver.
I wouldn't have bought the ST if the n/a 2.0L motor would have had more power. I'm guessing if Ford would throw about 20-25 more HP at the n/a motor it would do a better job at moving that 2,9xxlbs. of the hatchback SE.
That extra "get up and go" will be there if I need it in the ST. Gas mileage, not so worried about that these days as I once was. Naturally I would expect better than my other vehicles, Cobra and a 12 year old V8 pick up.
...and besides, if I can't stand it. Nobody says I have to keep it.
Anybody want to buy a LOW miles base model Kona blue ST? Have clear title in hand (or I will soon) Ha! just kidding!

So now I'm reading editor Turner's posts on upgrade mods. I find myself clicking on links to Ford Racing and Steeda's web site checking out parts.

Sure will, hopefully there won't be a bunch of snow on the ground by time it arrives.
You'll end-up dropping more than 36k for the RS I'm sure, but I just read Ford says 350hp / 350tq..... I mean damn!
I believe that's better than the Mustang Ecoboost.
Still, almost or over 40k for a Focus. I think the younger generations will go for it, but I'd like a little more car for that kind of cash, just showing my age.

I picked up a used 2014 performance blue st about a month ago. It has a cai and a short shifter bracket already.. It's a great car so far. Keeps getting better as the mornings keep getting cooler.. Btw the car makes 10hp less on bottom tier fuel. For me the extra $1.50 on a fill up is worth squeezing that extra power out of it. I had to replace my tires a while back. Went with general gmax as-03 all seasons. Bang for my buck I'm stoked.
Glad to hear the car is working out for you, but how are you only spending $1.50 more per fill up? Around here it's about 40 cents difference from 87 to 93. At a buck-50 that's about 4 gallons. Besides, it not per fill up, that won't be a whole lot. It's how much per year. Plus, I already have a 93 octane sucker that we wont even talk about gas mileage, lol!
That reminds me. have to contact the dealer and make sure they do not rivet that damn front plate holder on. Going with a no drill plate holder and I'll be mounting it down low.

I've been wheel shopping. I must admit I'm just not into most of the aftermarket wheels available. I guess it's my age showing or just plan stubbornness. Probably not wanting to let go of the past.. Ha!
Anyway, for those of us over 50 (and pushing 60, ouch!) I'm sure you remember back in the '70s, U.S. Mags. I remember them well, most of the time they were brushed aluminum slots. With the center cap marked, U.S. with a background of red/white/blue.
They're being made today and I talked with them about a custom set. The only downside is FWD and the high offset needed. I may loose some the 'concave' of the face, but I just may go for them anyway.
Also, Vivid Racing will soon have carbon fiber fender flares available, again. I'll need them for the rear 'cause I'll be going with at least 10" wide wheel... ol' school!
