my mustang has a pypes offroad x pipe. im worried about taking my car in to the dealer for service needed. i live in nevada and cats are required for smog here. is there a chance the dealer would actually take my car in for the work and call the police on me? im really worried about this i cant afford to pay any outragious fees for something i consider no big deal. ive been to small shops and some turned me away and some didnt. i havent been to the dealer yet catless so someone shine some light on this please

There is always a chance that a shop may do this, be it a small shop or a bigger dealer. If a shop gets caught working on a vehicle that has illegal parts on it, I am sure they could get into hot water themselves.

cats are required in IL here too. when I bought my 01 from a dealer it had an offroad h pipe installed on it. I'm pretty sure dealerships wont call the police for something like this. and if they do, play stupid.

with my 96 I have an offroad x pipe on it, but in my shed I have the stock mid pipe, so if I do ever get in trouble I can play stupid and put the stocker back on.

Car dealerships in Nevada have no duty to report illegal vehicle mods to law enforcement. As to your concerns, I seriously doubt that would occur and if they did, it would be unlikely the police would respond. I offer no guarantees, though. Nevada does OBDII testing, not a visual for cats.

If you are worried about that, then do what others do when comes time for smog... Put the stock exhaust parts back on for the test.

ya im aware its only obdII testing and not visual. i always keep my stock exhaust in my garage for emergencys if it needs to go back on for whatever reason smog or law enforcment. you know better than me so if you seriously dout it ill take your word. i just dont want to be greeted to smiles and be sitting in the lobby waiting only to have a LEO walk up to me and give me some bad news if you know what i mean.

they sold you a vehichle with the offroad pipe lol. wow they must of used that for the up sale haha. i really just bought the car too so i definetly will play stupid and throw the stock back on. anyone with a offroad mid pipe should keep there stock exhaust its only smart. when i think of the dealer calling the police on customers i just think to myself what douche move. turning in your loyal customers who bring in business.

You seriously think they're going to devote that much resources to an O/R exhaust even IF the dealer called? Relax.

you're probaly right but i never underestimate the law. ive gotten to many tickets, some deserved and some complete bs. im still paying monthly minumums from tickets i got 3 years back from a car i dont even own anymore. i consider myself to have the worst luck possible so i only picture this happening to me.

Quick thing on your "monthly minimums", the news just did a show on people paying tickets with minimum payments. They ended up paying thousands when a ticket was only $200.00. Pay that crap off quick...3 years is a long time to be paying on tickets. Heck, they even showed people being tossed in jail after they have been paying for a long time and then cant pay for some reason.

Good Luck!

If you are really that concerned about running with illegal exhaust, just replace with a legal set... Problem solved.

if you have heard all the legal types of exhaust you would know they will never sound as good as a car with offroad midpipes. i have been running legally since i got my license and i just wanted to have a nice sounding exhaust for once in my life. its not like i go around racing the streets at night or flooring it in neighborhoods waking up everyone in a mile radius. i go to work, and pay taxes like everyone else.

not sure what types of tickets caused that but i know my balance and its dropping each month i make a payment, i have been paying for years because i got around 6 total and it added up to over $2000. when you are only paying $35 monthly you see why its still not payed off. being jobless doesnt help. miss one payment regardless of the situation my license will be suspended until full amount is payed

if this is serious .. you should probably sell your cobra and buy bicycle and DD it for a few years. and it has nothing to do with luck. you play the game you are gonna pay the price. you just need to learn when to quit playing for awhile.

as far as your exhaust goes the biggest thing you probably need to worry about is getting stopped by a state cop that decides to enforce federal law. that shit can get very expensive. it's one reason I went to a high-flow cats on my car. the difference is not that much when it comes to HP

Have you heard an exhaust setup with modern high-flow cats? Your statement was true 10 years ago, but now it's not even close. I put high-flow cats on my car in hopes to mellow out the sound, I was sorely disappointed on startup.
