pypes o/r X Pipe flowmaster 40's

i recently have been blessed to get a pypes o/r X pipe for free because the girlfriend complained about the fumes and loudness lol. i will be having a car shop install it along with a exedy stage 1 clutch. i live in a pretty quiet nice neighborhood. my 98 GT currently has flowmaster original 40's installed from previous owner. ive heard that a offroad X pipe is unbarable with the original 40's is this true??? if so i will be getting either super 44's or delta to get rid of the obnoxious rasp. youtube doesnt do justice so i need the help from someone who has had this setup or have heard it in person.

it should be fine. but it depends on the person. i myself would recommend getting an x or h pipe with highflow cats. though its not the cheapest option as catalytic converters or pretty expensive. if you want something quieter i would get 44's. i had them paired with an catted h pipe and it was just right.

good advice, ive been using stock H pipes for years and it has to go period. now when u say u had a catted H with 44's are you referring to the stock piece or a aftermarket catted H, kt makes a difference. my gt has SIX cats and with 44's it would be to tame i already know. i plan on switching the 40's with 44's anyways because they are a tad quieter and deeper. i guess worst case scenario ill weld 2 cats to the pypes o/r X pipe since it was free lol

6 cats I heard of 4 mine had 4 on it because it had something to do with a two stage system but I never heard of 6 do you have pictures?

A few mustangs did end up with 6 cats stock to meet emissions requirements.

If you don't want a raspy exhaust, you should have gone with an o/r h-pipe, like a mac prochamber. x-pipes are inherently raspy.

So I'm guessing the 6 cats were for strict states like California right?and I agree my setup is pypes longtube headers with pypes prochamber and borla stingers and I love it does get kinda annoying on long trips though but wouldn't change it.

ive had two gts and both had 6 cats. one was auto in california and one in nevada. its rediculous if you Ask me. cats are so restrictive they rob sound and power. 4 is more than enough who ever came to the conclusion that a MUSTANG needed 6 is beyond me. its not a prius ffs let the car breathe. after the o/r x pipe install its like a different car. its super loud on cold starts and the car pulls harder now i can feel the difference with no other mods added. i now see why some guys go catless its worth it for power and sound

Now what state do you live in? do you have emmison checks? Do cops give you a hard time?

i live in nevada, their is a yearly smog inspection, which consist of just plugging in the obd2 no visual, no sniffer like california. i already passed in october with stock h pipe so im good until then. even found a shop that will swap when i need to. its been on for about a week. ive passed one cop going the opposite way, he was making a turn at a light he didnt even look up. 2nd cop was cruising a few cars behind me in traffic, and no issue i simply shift at 2k its loud but not pull me over please. in california im sure i would have been stopped already. its only insane sounding on cold starts, and getting on it really.

I don't remember exactly which ones, but I am pretty sure they were the 1998 and possibly 1997 model years. Then in 1999 with the power train update they were able to cut back to 4 to meet emissions.

They just changed in in California so that model year 2000 and newer cars with obd2 no longer need the sniff test. They just plug the car into the computer to check for codes. I couldn't believe it when it happened lol. And at least it's every other year and not yearly.
