RXT + 800-1k hp = No good.

Here are pics of the damage. I ran this clutch with my old 2.9 setup (625ish) for a short time (1-2k miles) and now with the new engine making 800+ and on c85 making 1k. My Cobra stays at the low boost setting of 13lbs ~800+ hp.
I have come to the conclusion that the rxt isnt strong enough for my application. I do understand that the rxt can be rebuilt but its not worth it when this will happen again.
I think i will go with a SPEC P-Trim next or the Centerforce DYAD. I am still open to options on different clutches.
My trans is a t56 with d&d 26 spline and upgraded throw out bearing sleeve. I will have to upgrade the t56 and am most likely going to go with a Magnum.

so you cooked it on 800?

yup, on my low 800 tune. remember that the rxt is rated at flywheel hp so at 800+ to the tire, its near the limit.
i honestly think the rxt is perfect for cars in the 600 to low 700's.

Brian, try to take pics of the grooves in the disks if you can..

Saw the clutch in person.. Kinda sucks, but Mcleod doesn't rate the clutch in FTLBS which it really should.. The main factors to look at is weight of the vehicle and tq imo.. Rating a clutch in HP is stupid..

I have a spec ss twin disc in my cobra and I don't make anywhere near the power you guys do and I hate it too. Worst clutch I've ever driven.

yes i have. i have heard great reviews on that clutch. im pretty sure Nicholas Shortridge uses that clutch with his 1400hp terminator that holds the 6spd/irs record.

Cool. I have one sitting in the box yet. That will be my next clutch.

yup, i am now. ive been reading a lot of bad reviews on their twin disc line.

The DYAD comes with a dyno sheet showing what your specific clutch did, mine held 1330 ftlbs of torque.

I know some big hp ls guys running exedy twin clutches , they aren't a vendor on here so you don't hear much about them. But that's what I'd go with if I was going to a twin.

Well first off it holds way more power then the RXT which is a no brainier. Then the fact that it's a full sprung hub vs the rxt that has 1 solid and 1 sprung. There's no stupid pivot ball to mess with because it's the same height as a stock single disc clutch. The pedal effort is like a hydraulic. Never any chatter or harsh engagement since the day I put it in. And just putting the 2 side by side you can tell there's a lot more R&D that went into the DYAD. It's a totally unique design.

One thing I've heard is that the DYAD might be harder on the input shaft than your conventional twin disc. The DYAD only has 1 disc that has splines on it engaging the input shaft where as most twin discs have a set of splines on each disc helping to transfer the load to the input shaft.

I'm only at 700rwhp and I street drive mine so I don't really worry about snapping the input shaft that much but a track car I could see the single set of splines being harder on the shaft.

That is true, how ever the hub is about an inch think. It actually has more surface area contact on the input shaft that a twin disc.

That maybe true as well. Although it might help that the RXT definitely has it spread over more area of the input shaft as the second set of splines is behind the floater vs the DYAD which is transferring all the power to the very front of the input shaft.
