Clamps around diff and the caliper mounting bolts go through them

I cant seem to figure out what they are for or why they are needed. Anybody?

The black piece with the U-bolt is the anti groan bracket for the rear brakes. If you remove them, your caliper will no longer be centered, and you will ruin your rear disc. Ask me how i know..

Good info!

Diving through some of the weight savings mods threads I came across the axle damper removal suggestion- just to clarify; those should be the pieces attached to the control arm bracket, correct?

Yup, the big rusty heavy things are the weights. I removed mine 20,000 miles ago.

I failed to reinstall them when I pulled my rear end for paint. Brakes made a hell of a racket, and cut a few groves into the back side of the rotor.

Indeed they would act as not only a gimmick but engineered in now as a spacer, thx for the info guys

Got mine off!! They were cuddled up so perfectly I guess I thought they were actually part of the control arm bracket! :D

Another thought is the weight of these is probably tuned to a certain harmonic associated with the factory gear ratio. Change your gear ratio from stock, you are probably outside of the "tuned" range these are meant to dampen, and are probably completely worthless at that point.

Anyone remember the ones that use to be on Fox-Bodies (the huge dogbone looking thing clamped on the pinion snout?) It makes these look very modern and refined
