I still have 7 quarts of Red-Line oil but due to it "not meeting spec" and me being under warranty, I don't want to pour it in my motor, clearly 5w50 Motorcraft does fine, though I have noticed with a FRESH FILL my motor can be noisy, but after about 1k of miles, it really quiets down, I guess it is shearing the oil to a lower weight.

Also I thought Castrol Edge USED to fit the specs, but it hasn't for the past...well 2 years? When did they meet the updated specs?

I don't have any oil results from a lab, but I just did a oil change with the Royal Purple HPS 10w-30 due to me running E85 and a 170* t stat. It's running extremely smooth compared to the Mobil 1 I've been using for years. Definitely a noticeable difference.

its great you have recommended lubes at the beginning, but i would like to see a "top 3" list that would offer some latitude when amsoil isn't available and i have an immediate need. my son recently purchased a 13 gt500 (with track pack) and needs to change the oil yesterday and wants to do it today. It looks like mobile 1 0w-40 or 10w-40 would be good alternatives from the UAO chart, or did i miss something?

if i missed this in the thread forgive me, its exhaustive!

after seeing a post about it on teamshelby, i should add that he lives in Cheyenne Wyoming and we plan to take it to a road course in vegas in may/june so suggestions for that would be great also.

Street use, go to Pep Boys. Most stores still have the "old" Pennzoil Ultra 0W-40 on the shelf. Your Shelby will love you for it. When Amsoil Signature Series 0W-40 isn't readily available, go grab Ultra.

If you plan to HPDE the car, I'd suggest Amsoil Signature Series 5W-50. However, not easy to get off the shelf, and we all know Motorcraft is "meh" in comparison, but is fine for a 1-2 day track event. I prefer Castrol 5W-50 over Motorcraft.

Does anyone have any experience using NAPA Platinum oil filters on these cars? The local NAPA shop has a 70% off sale on oil filters. I would like to try one, but have never used NAPA filters. The NAPA Gold filters are suppose to be made by Wix, I don't know if the Platinum filters are made by Wix or some other company.

It's a top-of-the-line Wix. Very good filter with synthetic media.

10w30 royal purple. Anyone used this on an 11 gt500? Is this good to use since it calls for 5w50?

Depends on use, but I'd probably only go down to 10w40.
I run 10w30 Amsoil Racing oil in my '14 GT500 but its always ran cool and street/strip, soon to be E85.

I've used Amsoil 10W-30 Signature Series in a street driven only car with 170* thermostat in Florida's heat with great results. However, not viscous enough for use with the stock thermostat. Either buy Pennzoil 0W-40 Ultra off the shelf at Pep-Boys or buy Amsoil from my recommendation list in post #1 of this thread.

i just want to some homage to this thread.

cant thank everyone enough for publishing this. ive read alot and learned alot in here. also digging how the recommendation has moved to the 0w40 signature series oil. im about to do my second change in owning the car as well as doing my C&R exchanger with 170* t stat and i like the fact that i can change the oil as well as the exchanger and run the same oil. versus before when i had gone with the 10w40 and it was recommended to drop down to 5w i think? just re-upped my amsoil membership and i couldnt be happier with the prices. theres something special about being able to change your own oil and know that the product youre putting in your car is top shelf with the numbers to back it up.

Needing to change my oil soon and was wondering how many have switched to Amsoil AZF 0W-40. Is this still the recommended oil for a DD street car in Texas heat?

You'd want to shop something comparable in the Motul 300V formulations. I do not have specific recommendations from that product line.

Hello UB, this is a follow up to my questions.
So I found Motul oil but not the 300V, its Sport 5W50. From what I read it does have ester content.
Also, my car has the 170 T-stat, would the 50 weight be ok or should I go with lower weight.

Thanx.

A cooler Thermostat used for street only with a 50 grade lubricant is a bit viscous for the GT500. I'd recommend something no heavier than a good 10W-40. However, no need for concern, you are not going to kill anything. Oil pressure will be a bit higher than average.
