The other night had a chance to try out my new tune on E85 done by Kevin 04Sleeper. While hanging out with a few friends we took a ride to get some coffee at the local Dunkin.. While pulling in we see a Black C7 Z06 which instantly put a smile on my face hoping for a friendly run. After speking to the owner he turned out to be really cool and agreed to a pull or two. Once he turned on the Z06 my smile kind of went away for a minute lol that thing sounded like a damn animal that was about to be unleashed.

We agreed to do a 50mph pull, I usually like 40mph but that was too low for his gearing. The run ended up being 50-180mph going. As we lined up next to each other I honked it off and 2nd gear we were perrty much even, I switched to 3rd he inched ahead of me, I siwtched to 4th he inched a little more ahead (about 1 Car overall) but by very top of 4th I started to gain a little, I switched to 5th and started to gain back and ended up a fender in front of the Z06 by 180mph...

It was a hell of a run and very exciting. Im not sure who was more suprised the owner of the Z06 or me my self that I was able to hang in there that well. It was a hot evening in mid 80s and that didnt help either one of us. My Iat2 was in the 180s by the end of run. Hot humid nasty evening.

Best part was we both came back to the spot shook hands and complemented each other's cars.

Sounds like a good race! I miss my Whipple Cobra for this exact reason. Being able to hang with a $100,000 car like that. I remember driving around the Chicago area when I had mine and the presence the 03-04 Cobras show was just bad ass. People know most of them are never stock. :)

sounds like a good race! any idea how much power you're making?

Something doesn't add up tho, warm weather, extremely high iat's, and wot in 5th. Your engine hates you and soon your wallet will too.

Yeah doing moon pulls with the stock pistons is definatly ballsy. I don't think e85 will lower iat2's but it probably lowers cylinder temps. That and the quality tuning by Kevin provided some extra protection. I still wouldn't have the stones to do it though lol.

OK - tell me more. I've just bought a 2.3 Whipple and I'm expecting to make around 18/19lbs, I had thought it would have been ok on the stock motor, but maybe not going on the above? Or is the issue the long run at WOT through the gears for such a long period (50-150+ mph) ?

Yes, the issue is long runs at WOT. The piston to cylinder wall clearance is .001 on the factory motors (for emissions I believe). This means if the piston is exposed to extremely high heat for long periods of times thermal expansion tends to happen, the piston and side wall of the cylinder will interfere which = :kaboom:

The presence is defenitly there with the 03/04 cobras especially the ones that know about cars. Others say its just a mustang untill they find out the hard way lol

Nice! Its been hotter than hell here in Florida which is why I have put off getting a tune for so long

Yeah this heat has been crazy, It was like 90+ degrees for a few weeks here in NY. Thanks to all the heat my alternator just went again smh.

I honestly dont know, Im planing to go dyno soon. Im guessing bewteen 650 and 700whp. As for something not adding up.. not really sure what you mean. I usually never go wot in 5th always stop on top of 4th. This was one of those nights that was pushed a little too hard. I also had the killer chiller on which helped. As engine hates me... Im sure it does, at 95k miles she treated me well and lasted beyond my expectation. I have some Livernois stage 3 heads waiting in the garage when that time comes.

I agree 100% with stock pistons its not really good idea to do WOT in 5th. I seen some nasty aftermath with pistons expansion. Back to back pulls is not smart as well.

Good write up and crazy race. Damn hauling

Thanks buddy.

I definetly will Franco. Unfortunatly not too much action happens out here. LI is 100% more action lol. Also those cars on the Island are no joke.. some are more like jets then cars lol

Hey man,
I'm the owner of the orange 5.0 and Z06 is my neighbor.

Yes yes, I remeber. The 5.0 is a sweet car looks like a beast.

As these were hand assembled engines, some of them may have a bit more piston/wall clearance. Good run

Terminator still representing. Just for reference though, your buddies C7Z dyno numbers with listed mods is quite high for a stock boost car, maybe he forgot to mention that he has also done a pulley swap?
