Been watching this cars for years now fluctuate in price, have my sights set on a R but still waiting to buy. What you guys think is going to happen to the price of these cars when the new gt500 is released and available? I'm guessing Ford will build close to the same amount of 350's in 17 as they did in 16.... will this extra volume of cars finally lower the selling price? I'm really wanting a "R" but not at the gotta have it now price. Remember in 12 when the new gt500 came out.... the same thing happened, but less extreme.... then by winter of 14 you could get a 500 under msrp. What's your thoughts or speculation on these inflated prices? Thanks

The R's will be gone well before then.

I'm still getting emails from locator companies that are moving R's at $25-30k over MSRP to other dealers.

I'm not exactly looking for a new R, it can have a few hundred miles on it.... even those are selling way over msrp

It'll be a few years, IMO, before they come down.

I've been monitoring R transactions and completed auctions on Ebay for the past few months, checking in weekly and noting highest bids on un-sold (reserve not met) auctions and sale prices on closed auctions.

Short story, most new Rs are getting bid up to $25k over sticker ($85-90k), and used cars with less than 1,500 miles are hitting the $75k-85k range consistently.

I intend to keep this table updated with date, VIN, chassis number, etc. ... will be interesting to watch values over time.

It will be interesting to see what the sales data of these cars entail after a year... Remember the 2000 cobra R, ford only made 300, sticker around 54k, not sure what they actually sold for from the dealer. Look now, 15 years later, when they come up for sale it only brings between 50k - 75k. With the small amout of data you have over the last few months on the gt350s and the R..... whats your prediction a year from now on the prices these car bring?

Paying $50k+ for a 00R isn't the best decision anyone could make.

Excactly my point..... in regards to these cars. I would like to pick a 350R up at reasonable price and track the hell out of it... It is the intended use, according to Ford.

Yep.

Unfortunately, that's a long shot.

Try the Canadian market. There has been no mark ups on MSRP and with a strong American dollar. There's some good deals to be had in Canada for my friends in the south.

I feel that the hype on these cars has final come to an end. Been on the phone with some dealers in NY and FL today, the 350s and Rs aren't bringing the anywhere close to the money they were 6 months ago, eBay auctions are ending with no sale quite frequently now. Maybe there is hope for a fair purchase price in the near future..... wait this one out for all you potential buyers!

I wrote a response to this that got lost in the board transition - oops. I think the most relevant benchmark is the 2013-14 GT500, which still trade right around their original MSRP in the mid-50s. I think these cars will similarly hold value in the short- to mid-term, and *might* see significant appreciation on the 30+ year horizon (as do many limited-edition sports cars and muscle cars).

I don't think I'd buy one and wrap it in plastic as an investment, both because I think it would be a bit foolish (could probably do better in market investments, long-term) and because it's not my style--cars are for driving and enjoying. That said, I don't think I'd be in a hurry to pay a large ADM on them, but if you want an R ... well ...

Ours sold new to the original owner for 10 over. Today, many people ask 50-75k, but they do not sell in this range. Cars actually change hands, still, in the 40's (with some exceptions). I use the original R's as examples of how, when the initial flurry dies down, cars are had for under sticker. Even Ford GT's were sold at a discount new, and the secondary market was reasonable, before the current spike took off.

Which "original" R are you referring to, the '93 Cobra R?

You're talking about 2 completely different cars between the GT500 and 350 or R. The R will always be rarer and produced in smaller quantities so the price will hold up better. Personally I am looking for a 350R and am willing to pay $25K-$30K over since that's the going rate and I don't see it going down any time soon. Want crazy ADM's? See what happens with the New Ford GT. IF you were approved to get one I have heard about dealers charging $100K over or more so that makes it a half million dollar car. It is what it is. Can't argue with Mr. Market.

I'm sure I could get you an R for $30k oved. So PM me if interested.

The rumor about the FGT is false though. Dealers can't charge anything over MSRP for them.

Good to know on the FGT. Definitely got some bad info so appreciate you letting us know. Not that I could afford one anyway! But I did own a 2006 FGT with all 4 options and wish I never sold it after seeing what pricing did. PM sent. Thank you.
