Has anyone managed to fit the 2011-2012 GT500 mufflers on the S550 body style mustangs? I searched this forum and the mustang 6 gen forum and couldn't find a thread. I remember seeing one on mustang 6 gen but couldn't find it back. Just bought a lighting blue 2017 performance pack today

Can't say that I've seen it done, but I haven't been looking. Those GT500 mufflers are super heavy though. There are much lighter aftermarket alternatives.

You wouldn't happen to know which aftermarket muffler has the closest sound to those GT500's without drone? I tried a few on my last 2016 and they had drone that I hated. I had those 500's on my 13 and they sounded great with ZERO drone.

One of my customers has done it. Best sounding S550 mufflers IMO.
You have to cut/weld them in place but they do fit with custom exhaust work.

The Roush with Cats sounds very close to the GT500 without cats.
Boss mufflers also have a similar sound. I want to say the Stock S550 mufflers + off road exhaust sound very close to the GT500/Boss's but I've not heard one in person. Adam at RevAuto has stock mufflers on his car with ARH exhaust and from what I'm told it sounds excellent.
They are all OE chambered designs.

That may be what I do. I learned my lesson last time with headers, I'm going to use Kooks offroad 1 3/4 this time so I guess I'll just leave the stock mufflers on for now and see what they sound like paired with an off road header/resonator delete h-pipe.

P.S. Shaun, I'll be getting in touch soon for tunes on this 17 M6 as well, Just a heads up. Lol

I have GT500 mufflers on my 2015. Best axleback option for the S550.

Yes, I'm interested as well. I know the hangers seem a bit different than whats on the S550 mufflers. Did you have hangers welded on the GT500 mufflers for extra support or did you just go with what the S550 was able to accommodate?

How was the install? Was welding required?

Welding will be required on the actual piping of the muffler and the car but I'm sure you knew that already since you own an S550. Jus thought I would chip in with that info

Cost me about $100 bucks to install, took them about a little more than an hour. No "buts", I drove in and said I want these mufflers on this car, they said no problem. I say this because a lot of muffler shops are giving people a hard time about installing them and I believe is because they want you to buy their mufflers instead. The factory hangers on the GT500 muffler will be cut off and a new one will be welded on the top inner part of the muffler to match the S550 hanger (1). Then in my case, they cut the last 90* bend on my factory muffler off, shortened it a couple inches and made the connection from the GT500 muffler to the stock piping on the car, in some cases they will use their own piping for this. the reason for shortening the last bend is because the inlet to the GT500 muffler is closer to the centerline of the car vs the stock mufflers inlet.

Awesome, I'm going to hunt down a set for my car then. Had these on my 2013 with off road H pipe and it sounded like AMAZING. What else do you have do to your car exhaust wise and would you mind to share a sound clip or even just text it to me if you wanna do that

I love it. And driving on the highway at 60-70 you wouldn't even know the car has any exhaust mods lol.

Thats exactly how my 13 was. I personally think those are the best sounding mufflers for a 5.0

Same here, had a 13 with these and an off road h pipe and it sounded like a hoss. I hate myself for getting rid of that car. Lol, she got after it for sure

Would the 13-14 GT500 mufflers fit on the S550s? I have a set and a buddy of mine has a '16 and if they fit he may purchase them from me.
