For those of us that are not oil analysis experts are these number good, bad or average? :shrug:

Want to switch to 0W40 but want to make sure the data supports the change.

Been looking at this more. All the element #'s look fine, but the viscosity numbers look a bit low in comparison to others.

If I understand viscosity correctly, low viscosity means it flows easier, does this mean then the oil weight is thinner? So the oil weight broke down and the indication of this is low viscosity.

According to amsoil - http://www.amsoil.com/lit/databulletins/g2880.pdf Kinematic Viscosity @ 100ºC for the 0W-40 (AZF) starts at 14.8. The question I would like to know is: What is the ideal viscosity for our (stockish) motors?????

Experts would say it's more biased on HT/HS than on Kinematic Viscosity. I'd say 3.5 cP is more than ideal for a street driven car with a stock thermostat. For a HPDE car, you'd want greater than 4 cP.

I've seen Motorcraft shear down to 10.x cSt before, virgin it was 19.x cSt or greater.

Appears Amsoil 0W-40 is shearing to a heavy 30 grade lubricant, as I expected from a lubricant with a wide multi-viscosity. No concerns, as I was running a mid 30 grade viscosity in my GT500 for thousands of miles with excellent results. Wear metals from the sample above are beautiful, I'd be smiling if that was my engine. Keep using Amsoil AZF 0W-40 for street use only. For HPDE, please use Amsoil AMR 5W-50.

One question about cP, how do you determine the final cP # from the oil analysis sheet? Looks like Amsoil shows a starting # of 3.9cP for the AZF 0W-40

So is the 0W-40 still the recommendation for our cars nowadays? Strictly a street driven car, no track time. Maybe a little fun on the street, but that's about it.

With that cooler thermostat, it's not required to change. I ran 10W-30 in my 2009 GT500 for years.
