Started working on my basement bar..

I finally decided to build a bar in my basement. I've been here for a bit over 4 years and this spot was really kind of wasted space.

*disclaimer* I've never built a bar. A couple of my buddies are helping. :biglaugh:

For as many beers as we had, it went pretty smoothly. :biglaugh:

It should be finished in a couple of weeks, so I will keep updating as we progress forward. Waiting on the TV, Kegerator, and countertops etc. which is on the way. Actually the Kegerator will make it here today.

Thanks. This is similar to the look I am going for. Obviously I don't have the ceiling height but the old barn wood on the front is what I'm after. TV in the middle on the back wall with shelves on each side. One for glasses and one for spirits.

This is similar to what I'm thinking to hang next to the TV for the glasses and spirits.

What do you all think?

I hope it will, and think it will. I'm going to run LED lighting on the front of the bar and on the shelves. Also, beneath the upper bar top to shine on the lower.

Makes me wish I had a basement.

It's nice to have for sure. The other side I use for my HT setup. There is also 1BR, full bath and utility room etc. in there. I'm single, so it's a lot of room for me.

That will be bad ass.

No plumbing right now. I really didn't see a big need for it. If was a lazy POS it'd be nice to have to wash glasses but I'm fairly active. lol

If that's a bathroom on the other side of that wall, it will be really easy to plumb in.

So I finally got back to working on the bar tonight.. I was off for a few weeks around Christmas / New years but life happened and I had other sh1t going on.

Anyway.. Really happy about the progress tonight. Got the Kegorator in place, floor, bottom bar top and the cutting board flushed in. I'm going to put some sealer around the cutting board, so no worries about those gaps.

I decided to go with a Penny bar top. . I plan to get to work on it next week sometime. Sunday I'm going to try to paint/stain what is currently complete. The bar top will be 10x2 and will over hang a bit. It is absolute perfect height, I'm really happy with how it is going.

Got back to work. Had a little help from DanTheMan on here.

Found some red oak trim up in dans attic and hit it with the router

First coat of stain.

Im going to do one more stain on the bottom bar top, plus a semi gloss epoxy. I don't want it to flashy since the bar top will be blang blangin. Holla

Thank you man! I don't know if I said this in here or not but I will use the same for the foot rail and antique it in copper. Same with the shelves.

Now for an update-

So, things have slowed down a bit. I was in a pretty gnarly car wreck Thursday and didn't get much of anything done over the weekend.

I got some of the barn wood up, stain finished and laid some poly down. I researched and researched on laying this poly and still had a mess. After the first coat of poly there were quite a bit of bubbles so I hit it with 220 and cleaned it with some mineral spirits.

Once I laid the second coat it looked to be going on better but once I got to the big part of the bottom bar it started to bubble again. I may try to hit it with 180 lightly and see if I can get them out. It really pisses me off. Any help would be appreciated.

I added another 2x4x10 for some more support for this crispy ass old barn wood. LOL

Is it quick drying poly? If so, use really light coats and sand in between. If it's not a quick drying one, you can do a really light first coat and then a heavy second (like shooting clear on a car). It's a fine line between a smooth layer and bubbles.
