I have always said, you spend most of your life at work. If you hate your job, you hate your life. That's not healthy.

I love my job. I'm self-employed. I have several revenue streams, but my most significant... am an Electronics Engineer and a Computer Systems Architect. I specialize in consulting to the Dept. Of Defense, Dept. Of Homeland Security, and the Dept. Of Justice.

The things I love about what I do is, the fact that I found a way to contribute the most talent to the safety and security of our nation. Plus, I meet and work with a lot of great people. Some of the social connections have lasted decades.

Some other things that make it nice... I can do what I want, when I want. Meaning if there is a project or task I don't want to do, I can simply pass. If there is a task I want to take on... I make sure I have the best proposal. The other is... frankly, is the money.

Really enjoy my job. Maintenance Mechanic for Ecolab. Great pay and great people to work with. Only 10 minutes from home

Only down fall is working midnights but should be on days within the next year.

My father has owned Dairy Queens now for 40+ years. Currently owns 3

Over the past 10-15 years, DQ has really paid off big for him.

Ford GT, GT500, ZR1, CLS63 AMG, F350 are his current whips.

I am the GM at the busiest location. Been working for my Dad since I was 14yo, currently 27.

I look forward to doing what he does. Its "stressful" work, but can pay off well if you do it just the right way

I really couldn't ask for a better place to work. I mean, I truly don't deserve the opportunity I've been given. I say all that to say this; when I was out of work for a solid month because of my motorcycle wreck, something I can be blamed 100% for, my job was never in jeopardy despite my boss constantly expressing his displeasure at the fact that I ride (rode). That's a big deal because, well, I'm his only employer. My boss is the owner of the company, so just us on a day-to-day basis.

With that said, this isn't what I ever pictured myself doing, nor is it what I want to be doing for the rest of my life. But I will remain grateful for this job for the rest of my life.

Now to get EcoLab to sell me some degreaser labeled bottles in less quantity than a 30 pack!

got to keep that health department happy!

I've worked in places I've dreaded for years- it paid my way through college.

I've been at my current job for 6 years. I absolutely love what we do, but the politics, timing, and stress are unbearable at times. Certain people think everything is easy because they do not understand how reality works. They're the reason much of the team has to work insane hours and have no work/life balance. My philosophy is that if you're the promise-maker, you should be responsible for working alongside the team that has to make your promise reality. I haven't had a true vacation in 14 years- lost probably 500+hrs due to "use it or lose it" policies.

I've been an R&D Engineer, process engineer, mechanical engineer, project manager, and now engineering manager. Engineering is a completely thankless job, and if you don't derive your own satisfaction from the work you do, it's a recipe for an early death.

I completely agree with you on this. I have a team of 26 people and we have to get 11 designed, manufacturable, marketed, tested, and certified products IN A YEAR! As a Project Manager, I can't stand seeing other PM's who just give out orders, fill out a report and go home. Because of the crazy schedule, I'm constantly in the trenches with the design team, testing team, marketing team, and even accounting. I think for a leader, Project Manager, to be a true leader, they need to get dirty with the team. Not just dish out orders. PMI recommends against this, but that's not my philosophy.

Exactly. I've been officially in charge of mechanical engineering for the past year (de-facto for longer). My method of handling bandwidth issues is to roll up my sleeves and take on spillover myself- I've been chewed out for it several times. There's a difference between leading and managing. Constant delegation is management, helping a team in the trenches is leading.

I love mine. I'm a 2nd Shift Process Tech. For a plastics company we make molding for Automotive glass company's. Only things I don't like is benifits but that should be changing for the better I hope since the owner sold the place. Also I'm a manager and the accountability and laziness of some people get aggravating. Especially when they don't want to take responsibility or accountability. I've busted my ass to get were I'm at. I'm great full for my boss giving me the opportunity during the 08 recession. I started at the bottom and worked my way up.

I was one that couldn't find my niche work wise, family had a crane company and I always loved equipment growing up and still love operating anything, but the pay ceiling was is low. Now i'm close to getting my journeyman plumbing license and absolutely love everyday. Never wanted to be a plumber and never imagined the knowledge necessary to retain.

It's just me my boss the RMP and his dad an MP and their experience and knowledge is invaluable, we do new construction only and have over 40 houses we're working on. Work is hard, heat is unbearable, but nothing makes me happier then seeing the work I do, and the paycheck is just an added bonus.

Military helicopter pilot. I like it a lot. The pay is actually better for me, being in the military than flying civilian and the benefits are pretty good. Five more years until retirement at age 40. Then I can do another 20 for a commercial company when I'm out. Obviously the military isn't for everyone. Tons of hardships and family strain you have to deal with. I add it up to a little self sacrifice and taking the good with the bad.

Some days my job makes me want to jump in front of a train. Hell it can be going slow... I don't care.
Steel mill for 15 years now and it's on a downward spiral. Not from lack of customers and sales but from horrible management. It's so bad they can't even hire managers.
I've been on the lookout as of late for a new job.

I like my job. Don't care too much for what I do, but I really enjoy WHERE I work and the work this company does. It's a plain old office job so the details don't feel super necessary.

I love my job. It challenges me daily. Senior Accountant and Analyst for a midsize manufacturing company. I love the manufacturing environment. The company has a tough but fair culture and is known for their commitment towards employees. My boss is probably the best part of my job. She's no BS and will fight tooth and nail with you to get a project done.

I came to MFG as a Sr. Acct as well, from retail, service, and billable hr public company. Manufacturing is so much more interesting.

Agreed! I love delving into the various projects we come up with. Some of the regulatory FCPA/SOX stuff can be a bit dull. I love getting out on the mfg floor and chatting with the workers and engineers to get a feel for how things run down there.

We had 3 Dairy Queens growing up. Paid for my college, my go kart racing hobby when I was a teen, and now my dad has quite a few vintage mustangs, nicest one being a 1967 Convertible GTA with the 390 big block in it. Cars one of a few with the big block, automatic and factory air in a convertible. If you can deal with the crazy customers they can be a cash cow with the right managers.

I on the other hand went into accounting and got my CPA license. I HATED public accounting hours, but liked the work. After 5 years I landed a job in a family office that is basically a CPA firm but only for one family. I do everything from a small oil and gas, to multi million dollar retail companies, to rentals, to farms and all of the individuals. I have been working 45 hour weeks during our busy season where I would be working 75 hour weeks in public accounting.

I honestly dont think I will leave here until I retire.
